Read: Psalm 121
Read: Psalm 121
A Song of degrees.
1 I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, From whence cometh my help.
2 My help cometh from the Lord, Which made heaven and earth.
3 He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: He that keepeth thee will not slumber.
4 Behold, he that keepeth Israel Shall neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The Lord is thy keeper: The Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand.
6 The sun shall not smite thee by day, Nor the moon by night.
7 The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: He shall preserve thy soul.
8 The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in From this time forth, and even for evermore.
Introduction:
Introduction:
Six times in some form we find in this Psalm the word “keep”
Julia H. Johnston from Peoria, Illinois wrote a beautiful old hymn several years ago that talks about God’s keeping...
1 Jesus Christ is my salvation,
He will keep;
From the power of temptation
He will keep;
From the worlds’ bewitching snare,
Tho’ it find me unaware,
Jesus Christ, whose name I bear,
He will keep.
Chorus:
He will keep from ev’ry foe
Fearlessly with Him I god,
For my Savior is divine,
I am His and He is mine;
Till the lights in heaven shine,
He will keep.
2 When life’s peril o’er me hovers
He will keep;
My defenseless head He covers,
He will keep;
In the deadly grasp of pain
He is never sought in vain,
He who turns our loss to gain,
He will keep. [Chorus]
3 When I come to earth’s dark river
He will keep;
When the flesh and spirit quiver
He will keep;
Underneath my Savior’s arm
He’ll support in fear’s alarm,
And from ev’ry loss and harm,
He will keep. [Chorus]
He is The Divine Keeper:
An Omnipotent Keeper (Ps 121:2)
His is the ALMIGHTY - He “made the heaven and the earth”
A Sure Keeper (Ps 121:3)
“He will not suffer thy foot to be moved)
A Vigilant Keeper (Ps 121:3)
He is The ALWAYS AWAKE - “he slumbereth not.”
A Tender Keeper (Ps 121: 5)
“The Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand”
A Holy Keeper (Ps 121:7)
The Lord shall preserve (keep) thee from all evil
A Spiritual Keeper (Ps 121:7)
He shall preserve thy soul
An eternal keeper (Ps 121:8)
The Lord shall preserve…even for evermore.”
Miracle on Stairwell B
“More than 1,400 people died inside the North Tower when it fell. Only 14 survived - Jay Jonas and his group and the three firefighters from Engine 39. They were all trapped between the first and fifth floors of Stairwell B.
‘We just happened to be in the right spot,’ says Jonas, after having time to reflect. “There was nothing magical about it. There was one pocket, one void, and we happened to be in it. When we got out, I assumed there were hundreds of pockets where people were safe but trapped. It took me about a week to realize that nobody else was coming out, and that was a shock.”
It wasn’t just chance, or just happened, I have no doubt it was in direct response to prayer.
One of the one trapped in the Stairwell B was Lim a Port Authority officer. He called his wife to let her know that he was alright but going in the tower to help people. She was keeping a close watch on the news and watched in horror as the North Tower collapsed. As soon as she saw that called her father, a pastor, and trembling in grief cried, “I think I’ve lost my husband.” who called the church people and they began to pray.
About an hour later, Lim called Diane his wife from Stairwell B telling her he had survived the collapse and was waiting to be rescued. She immediately called her father. Upon hearing the amazing news, her relieved dad told her, “I’ve seen prayer work before, but never this fast.”
For Lim, the miracle of Stairwell B strengthened the faith that he and his family shared.
