1. A book called “Suffering”
a. Hope when life doesn’t make sense
i. It’s about a pastor and going through some health issues
b. It rang a bell for me.
i. I recalled those days with my back problems
ii. I’m thinking this is good sermon material
iii. But something just wasn’t right
iv. I was kind of a bummer reading that
v. I have some unrealistic expectations

i. Psalm 86:4 (NIV) — 4 Bring joy to your servant, Lord, for I put my trust in you.

iii. We can focus on the problem so much that we forget the cure.
iv. What I really need is joy!

iii. These things can bring stress depression sadness heartache sorrow
iv. “We live in a broken world where people die, food decays, wars rage, governments are corrupt, people take what isn’t theirs and inflict violence on one another, spouses act hatefully toward each another, children are abused instead of protected, people slowly die of starvation or die suddenly from disease, sexual and gender confusion lives, drugs addict and destroy, gossip destroys reputations, lust and greed control hearts, bitterness grows like a cancer, and the list could go on and on.”
v. No wonder we are exhausted
We need a joy that comes from within
i. Not a happiness that is built on sandy ground.
ii. No better place than the bible

b. Earthy minded
i. One of the points in my sermon on “Joy Robbers” was this.
ii. We can become earthly minded.
iii. Joy is based on how my life is going
iv. Job good Family good Money good I’m good
v. All of that is temporary and broken
vi. Do you remember the out of town box and the in town mailboxes at the post office?
vii. You would mail a letter to your neighbor, and they would get it the next day.
viii. Not anymore (3 days)
ix. Now we can what? Send a text or email. We can send cash over our phones

iii. This is what Paul did in Philippians
iv. Philippians 3:8 (GW) — 8 It’s far more than that! I consider everything else worthless because I’m much better off knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. It’s because of him that I think of everything as worthless. I threw it all away in order to gain Christ.

a. Thing about those joy robbers
i. They can only rob you of your joy if you let them.
ii. Paul had a single mind.
iii. Everything else was a crap pile.
b. Begin today
i. Understand you worth and value is based on being a child of God
ii. Not someone’s opinion of you.
iii. I have struggled with this the past few weeks
iv. You have nothing to prove but only to my Lord and Savior
v. You need to prove my love and devotion to Him.
vi. Bringing Him honor is my goal
vii. Don’t be a jerk but you don’t to need to prove worth
viii. With Christ you have eternal value
