The apostle Paul’s crisis —
2 Corinthians 12:7 (NLT)
...I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger from Satan to torment me and keep me from becoming proud.

The real proof of the transformation Jesus brings, is found in...who we rely on in a crisis, and how we live when we are not in crisis.
Paul learned as a follower of Jesus, whether life was like going uphill or downhill — Grace was all he needed — Nothing more, nothing less!

What is a crisis?

(S7) — Four ways he experienced GRACE in CRISIS
1. Grace in the NEARNESS of God
2 Corinthians 12:4 (NLT)
I was caught up to paradise and heard things so astounding that they cannot be expressed in words, things no human is allowed to tell.
Third heaven — Highest glory — Closest to God you can get and live to tell about it
Near My God to Thee...
We find this grace in PRAYER — The ability to draw near to God
James 4:8 “Come close to God, and God will come close to you.
When were the times you felt this closeness to God? Was it in the midst of a crisis — Significant event that set you on a course of significant change?

2. Grace in the HEALING nature of God
2 Corinthians 12:5 (NLT)
5 That experience is worth boasting about, but I’m not going to do it.
I will boast only about my weaknesses.

For us, weakness is not perceived as a strength —

Being open about a sin in our life is hard — Best brought into the light of God’s healing nature.
God is perfect — We are not!
To know God as healer, is to first be aware of our human affliction — We are burdened by sin, God is sinless!
2 Corinthians 5:21 “For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.”
How do we experience this HEALING nature of God?
In the compassionate arms of Jesus
Matthew 9:36 “When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.”
Grace helps us see our need in our weakness or imperfectness to be in relationship with the one who is God — Jesus the healer...

3. Grace in the ACTIVITY of God
2 Corinthians 12:8–9 (NLT)
8 Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away.
9 Each time he said, “My grace is all you need.
My power works best in weakness.”
So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.
