Who Do You Serve?

And when he came to the den, he cried with a lamentable voice unto Daniel: and the king spake and said to Daniel, O Daniel, servant of the living God, is thy God, whom thou servest continually, able to deliver thee from the lions? Then said Daniel unto the king, O king, live for ever. Who Do You Serve?

Serve

We often use this word losely or even sometimes out of content.

1. To work for; to bestow the labor of body and mind in the employment of another.

2. To act as the minister of; to perform official duties to; as, a minister serves his prince.

3. To attend at command; to wait on.

4. To obey; to perform duties in the employment of; as, to serve the king or the country in the army or navy.

I. SOME SERVE THE GOD OF MATERIAL WEALTH

2. Those who depend solely upon the material…

a. The person who serves the god of materialism never thinks of others—only of self…

b. He has a false concept of real happiness…

II. SOME SERVE THE GOD OF FORMAL RELIGION

Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

1. Formalism offers beauty, but no peace… Pageantry—ceremony—no inner peace…

2. Popularity—but no heaven…

3. Appeasement—but no assurance…

4. Religion—but no salvation…

III. SOME SERVE THE GOD OF FLESHLY DESIRE

2 Timothy 4:10 KJV (WS)

For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia.

1. Those who serve the God of fleshly desire do not know the value of real Christian friendship…

2. They forsake the best friends they ever had…

IV. SOME SERVE THE GOD OF THE FEAR OF MAN

Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known.

3. Fear of man will rob you of blessings…

V. SOME SERVE THE GOD OF GLORY

Job 13:15 KJV (WS)

Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him.

1. Serving the God of glory brings peace and contentment…

2. Strength in time of temptation…

3. Hope in the hours of darkness…

4. Deliverance in the hour of trial…

5. Grace to pray for your wayward friends…

6. Brightens the valley when you face death,
