Suffering should allow your faith in God’s word to not waiver
End of Genesis ~1800 B.C - it ends with the death of Joseph
Birth of Moses ~ 1525 B.C. - end of Egyptian captivity - beginning of Exodos
in 2022 USA is 246 years old
Hezron, RAM and Amenidab
Egypt was similar to a large metropolitan city like Chicag0
Moses - 40 years prince in Egypt - then 40 years in midi-an shepherding the flock in the wilderness
The exodus sets up the rest of the biblical narrative
Moses was a “Christ Type”
Moses gave us the law - Christ came to fulfill the law
Moses lead people out of slavery - Jesus lead people out of slavery to their sin
Moses who wrote the 10 commandments - Jesus came to fulfill the 10 commandments
The Exodus is marked by suffering. We suffer under the slavery of sin. Jesus suffered under the cross

Point 1 - Entrust Your Suffering to God (v.3)

Your suffering in the will of God is producing something important
Romans 8:12–18 ESV
So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him. For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.
You have to have space in your theology of God for the suffering of the saints
God’s primary goal is not to stop your suffering
If there isn’t suffering there isn’t faith
Each of the plagues in Exodus are in direct relation to the gods that the Egyptians worshipped.
Exodus 12:29 ESV
At midnight the Lord struck down all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sat on his throne to the firstborn of the captive who was in the dungeon, and all the firstborn of the livestock.
Matthew 26:26 ESV
Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is my body.”
Last Supper - parallel to the Passover in Exodus. Israel had to have a substitutionary atonement, either the lamb or the first born

Point 2 - Grasp God’s Plan for Deliverance (v.4a)

Galatians 4:4–7 ESV
But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God.
God dwelling in the Garden with Adam and Eve --- God dwelling in the Tabernacle with his people
Dwelt in Greek is tabernacle
Don’t be a moses — be like Christ. Moses was pointing to Christ

Point 3 - Embrace God’s discipline
