Problem
Problem
We all think we are pretty good people deep down
I know I thought I was
We often set the bar of good and bad at ourselves
But the bible says that we are all sinners who have fallen short of the glory of God
We often look at others who didn’t have a good life growing up and think they are lesser or think they are bad people
Are you better than others?
Man who thinks his wife is deaf
We often judge others before examining ourselves
That is the core idea of today’s passage
Passage
Passage
1 Therefore, every one of you who judges is without excuse. For when you judge another, you condemn yourself, since you, the judge, do the same things. 2 Now we know that God’s judgment on those who do such things is based on the truth. 3 Do you think—anyone of you who judges those who do such things yet do the same—that you will escape God’s judgment?
We are to judge, there is just a right way and a wrong way to do it.
7 When they persisted in questioning him, he stood up and said to them, “The one without sin among you should be the first to throw a stone at her.”
This verse is often used to explain that Christian’s are not to judge at all
1 “Do not judge, so that you won’t be judged. 2 For you will be judged by the same standard with which you judge others, and you will be measured by the same measure you use. 3 Why do you look at the splinter in your brother’s eye but don’t notice the beam of wood in your own eye? 4 Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the splinter out of your eye,’ and look, there’s a beam of wood in your own eye? 5 Hypocrite! First take the beam of wood out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to take the splinter out of your brother’s eye.
This verse explains exactly how a Christian is to judge
Are you judging correctly? This passage gives us a few solutions to know how
For the sake of bringing a friend to Christ
For the sake of being the “better” person
Solution
Solution
Understand that God judges you with the same standard that you judge others
If you take the log out of your eye first this isn’t a big deal
Don’t get so caught up looking at other people’s sins that you don’t see your own
Understand that we are all sinners destined for hell before Christ intervened
Don’t be a hypocrite, When you take the beam out of your eye you can see to help out your friends with their sin struggles
After we go through a problem we can see clearly to help our friends out who struggle with the same stuff. Encourage them.
Is it more hateful to not say anything
Christians don’t judge for the sake of being judgmental, but we judge for the sake of regeneration
Regeneration is basically someone coming back to Jesus
Application
Application
Understand the urgency of the gospel. We want to tell people of the Good news that Christ wants to have a relationship with them.
We don’t know the day nor the hour that Christ will return or that someone’s life could end. That is why it is so urgent to share the gospel now!
Love your friends as Christ loves you
Think of the story of Hosea in the old testament
He was married to a prostitute named Gomer and she would be sold for sex. In the story Hosea would continue to buy Gomer back regardless of the price. That is the same love God has for us that while we may run he already paid it all on the cross.
That’s why we examine ourselves first. Because we were are the prostitute who runs from God. What we do is worthless without the love and forgiveness of Jesus
