It would indeed have to be from Heaven

Jesus has just established this fact. He is superior! He came down from Heaven, but the serpent served a second purpose.

the serpent was God’s provision of salvation— thus, look to it!

Jesus became God’s vicarious offering who was lifted upon on a cross (12:32) and we must look to him to be saved.
