We talked of Jesus promising His disciples a helper, the Holy Spirit.
We talked that the Spirit is a “He” and not a “it”
the Spirit is God, and has been part of all creation, life, and instruction
Jesus also says that if you love Him and keep his commandments, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit will be in you
Jesus says that He will disclose Himself to those who believe.
So how does Jesus disclose Himself to us today???
We will come back to that.............
22 Judas (not Iscariot) said to Him, “Lord, what then has happened that You are going to disclose Yourself to us and not to the world?”
23 Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him.
24 “He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine, but the Father’s who sent Me.
25 “These things I have spoken to you while abiding with you.
26 “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.
27 “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.
28 “You heard that I said to you, ‘I go away, and I will come to you.’ If you loved Me, you would have rejoiced because I go to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.
29 “Now I have told you before it happens, so that when it happens, you may believe.
30 “I will not speak much more with you, for the ruler of the world is coming, and he has nothing in Me;
31 but so that the world may know that I love the Father, I do exactly as the Father commanded Me. Get up, let us go from here.
So after Jesus talks to the disciples about the Holy Spirit.
Jesus tells them that through the work and person of the Holy Spirit, His people will be loved by Him and by the Father.
Jesus tells His people that they will have a relationship with not Just Him, but the trinity, the entire Godhead.
There are questions.
22 Judas (not Iscariot) said to Him, “Lord, what then has happened that You are going to disclose Yourself to us and not to the world?”
What about the others?
Judas (not Iscariot) ask Jesus about the is asking: Is Jesus only for the disciples? what about the world?
Will the world get to see Christ as He truly is?
23 Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him.
abode - to stay, to dwell.
Jesus says that those who love Him, WILL keep his word/commandments. The Father will love him
and will be with him
Jesus is a relationship God.
The beauty of the relationship God has/had with man
The beauty of the relationship God has/had with man
From the beginning
15 Then the Lord God took the man and put him into the garden of Eden to cultivate it and keep it.
19 Out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the sky, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called a living creature, that was its name.
God created all things.
He has the authority and power to control all,
but He gave man the honor and task of keeping His creation and naming all the animals
21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter.
22 “Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’
23 “And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.’

38 “They shall be My people, and I will be their God;
39 and I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear Me always, for their own good and for the good of their children after them.
40 “I will make an everlasting covenant with them that I will not turn away from them, to do them good; and I will put the fear of Me in their hearts so that they will not turn away from Me.
‘fear meaning reverence, honor, joy, love, peace.
3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them,
Jesus is a RELATIONSHIP God
So what relationship do you have with Him? is it the right one????
Just because you are associated with, know of, and are acquainted with something. Does not mean that you have a relationship with
**film name drop example**
Jesus says here that those who love Him, Keep his word/teaching/commandments, the Father will love Him, and Him and the Father will dwell with him.
Again abode meaning to stay to Dwell.
24 “He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine, but the Father’s who sent Me.
25 “These things I have spoken to you while abiding with you.
Jesus says that if you do not believe Him, you cant believe in the Father,
You cant have one without the other.
This is why Judaism, cant be considered the same as Christianity.
Jesus shares this truth to those who are in Him.
But where does our direction come?
But where does our direction come?
26 “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.
The Holy Spirit will be the helper, the one who will guide the believer.
In this text Jesus tells his disciples that the Holy Spirit will remind them of all they have learned.
This will mean something in the writing of the New Testament.
27 “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.
Peace
Jesus does not just give this peace as a status of one who is no longer at war, but he gives blessing and peace.
no more war with God
peace and blessing
a relationship with God
a new understanding of who God is, and we now are family,
So because of this, don’t be troubled
28 “You heard that I said to you, ‘I go away, and I will come to you.’ If you loved Me, you would have rejoiced because I go to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.
29 “Now I have told you before it happens, so that when it happens, you may believe.
Jesus is not inferior to the Father, when Jesus says that the Father is greater, He again is humbling Himself.
Jesus is going to be crucified, humiliated and going to be the lamb that will be slain for all sin.
30 “I will not speak much more with you, for the ruler of the world is coming, and he has nothing in Me;
31 but so that the world may know that I love the Father, I do exactly as the Father commanded Me. Get up, let us go from here.
Jesus says the satan is coming (in Judas) but satan has not power over Jesus, Jesus’ focus is in the Father, and accomplished the work that will set up before the foundation of the world.
15 And I will put enmity
Between you and the woman,
And between your seed and her seed;
He shall bruise you on the head,
And you shall bruise him on the heel.”
This is about to happen
Jesus than says to Him
In saying this, Jesus now tells them. lets leave the upper room and go.
They are now about to start the Journey to the cross
Back to the question.........
So how does Jesus disclose Himself to us today???
Through the Holy Spirit, and The Bible.
