Philippians 4

Okay Philippians 4 focuses on Paul telling the saints to rejoice in the Lord always.

What are Paul's Joy and Crown?

The Greek word for crown, Stephanos, besides the figurative meaning which expresses tender love, was commonly used to denote the festive garland, worn as a sign of gladness, or the wreath awarded to the victor at the athletic contest (cf. 1 Cor.

9:25).

If the metaphor is to be applied here, it means that the Philippian Christians would be regarded as his ‘reward’, the seal of his apostleship (1 Cor.

9:2), and the proof that his labour had not been in vain in the Lord

This church in Philippi were the only ones to help Paul after leaving Macedonia and he thanks them for their generosity and gifts.
