“The Reliability of Matthew, Mark & Luke”

What is the relation between Matthew, Mark and Luke?

These books are called the synoptic gospels because they see things together.

They follow the same outline.

Note: there are similarities but there are also differences in Matthew, Mark and Luke.

Most scholars say the book of Mark was written first.

We have the early testimony of the Christian Writers:

Mark 6:45-52, (the NIV translates 50b as, “It is I,” in the Greek it states “I AM”) the most profound statement in the New Testament is found in John 8:58, “Before Abraham was born, I AM.” Jesus existed in eternity before Abraham was born.

Jesus puts himself on the same level as God.

This term “I AM,” is the same term used when Moses asked who I shall say has sent me (to free Israel from Egyptian bondage) over in Exodus 3:13-14.

Every attribute of God is found in Jesus:

Jesus is all-knowing: John 16:30

Jesus is all-present: Matthew 18:20; 28:20

Jesus is all-powerful: Matthew 28:20

Jesus is eternal: John 1:1-4

Jesus is unchanging: Hebrews 13:8

70 times in Matthew, Mark and Luke Jesus was called the Son of Man.

This title refers to his side that related to humanity.

Jesus is 100%, but he’s also 100% God.

He and the Father are one (John 10:30).

Daniel 7:13, this was fulfilled by Jesus Christ and no one else.

Jesus Christ calls himself the “Son of Man.”

The historical testimony of Archaeological research:

Mark 1:21; 3:1, Research has discovered this same synagogue.

Luke 3:1, Lysanias was a governor during the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar.

Acts 1:1-3, Luke in his writing was confident that what he wrote was the truth.
