Soldiers are those that serve in the army ( Worldly )
Soldiers are willing to give it all for country
when they are deployed they have a laser focus
they are at the sargents comand
the amount of training they do

Why did he go up the mountian

maybe it was the disciples commitment to follow Him up the mountian
He sat which was the customary position for teaching- when people sat the taught
Jesus is dealing with the spiritual quailities of those who enter the kingdom of heaven or God
Jesus is interducing his Kingdom of how His followers are to live
the beatitudes dont promise laughter, pleasure, and earthly prosperity ( temporary things ) they turn the worlds ideas upside down ( people who do not believe in a God is on the rise in america
beatitude means blessedness
As followers of Him we need to be willing to apply His teachings to our life / counter cultural
the best example of these is Jesus

Blessed are the poor in spirit

Blessed in this context Greek word ( makarios ) which does not represent a mental state ( does affect that ) but a condition of life: means: Fortunate or well off / happy ) in spiritual sense
Poor is not referring to poor materially here but spiritually
they thought he was going to say something like because they are abrahams family they could be apart of Gods Kingdom
People empty ( Self) before God / not living for self
Humility - attitude of lowliness and obedience, grounded in the recognition of one’s status before God
Not walking around with our headed down
Not thinking less about oneself, but think about oneself less = putting God and others before our desires
Luke 1:52 NKJV
He has put down the mighty from their thrones, And exalted the lowly.
2 Samuel 7:8 NKJV
Now therefore, thus shall you say to My servant David, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: “I took you from the sheepfold, from following the sheep, to be ruler over My people, over Israel.
1 Peter 5:6 NKJV
Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time,
1 Peter 5:5 NKJV
Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.”
Luke 18:14 NKJV
I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”
Jesus is the perfect example - willing to come to earth for our sake

Jesus Christ served others first; he spoke to those to whom no one spoke; he dined with the lowest members of society; he touched the untouchable. He had no throne, no crown, no bevy of servants or armored guards. A borrowed manger and a borrowed tomb framed his early life.

Charles W. Colson

Examples of humility
Being a good listener = showing interest in others lives
Admit our mistakes - be willing to apologize to someone
Be grateful = don’t brag. in america we start alot of sentences with I
Be willing to ask for help
don’t compare among ourselves
Recognize there is always more to learn - we do not have it figured out
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Websters = freedom from arrogance & pride

Proud and unpleasant behaviour towards other people, based on a belief in one’s own superiority or greater importance

1 John 2:16 NKJV
For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world.
1 Timothy 3:6 NKJV
not a novice, lest being puffed up with pride he fall into the same condemnation as the devil.
Romans 12:3 NKJV
For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.

Blessed are they that mourn for they shall be comforted

Jesus is talking about those that mourn over their sins=true repentance
possably the sins of those around us
think of peter when he denied Jesus 3 times
comforted here on earth and and the final comfort of Heaven
many christians view God’s kingdom as a future reality …ans the point of life is to get to heaven. Gods kingdom is a reality and we can experiance His kingdom here when live out Jesus teachings & Gods will for our Life
The world around us embraces abominations: sin happiness at all cost
Ezra 9:3–6 NKJV
So when I heard this thing, I tore my garment and my robe, and plucked out some of the hair of my head and beard, and sat down astonished. Then everyone who trembled at the words of the God of Israel assembled to me, because of the transgression of those who had been carried away captive, and I sat astonished until the evening sacrifice. At the evening sacrifice I arose from my fasting; and having torn my garment and my robe, I fell on my knees and spread out my hands to the Lord my God. And I said: “O my God, I am too ashamed and humiliated to lift up my face to You, my God; for our iniquities have risen higher than our heads, and our guilt has grown up to the heavens.
James 4:7–10 NKJV
Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.
If we mourn our sins and repent He is faithful to comfort us through forgiveness

Blessed are the Meek

mild or humble , they dont seek gain for themselves
to the early church the word carried also the idea of mastery over ones own passions Clement of Alexandria writes; The meek are those who who have quelled the battle of unbelief in the soul, the battle of wrath, lust, and the other evils that are subject to them.
Matthew 11:29 NKJV
Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
Jesus set the example. He was not a coward or timid - He rode a colt
Psalm 37:11 NKJV
But the meek shall inherit the earth, And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.
I believe the earth is the coming of our Lord ( New Earth in 2 peter 3:13-14)

Those Who hunger and thirst after righteousness

Righteousness definition: Holy upright living in accordance with God’s standard. The word “righteousness” comes from the root word that means straightness.God’s character is the definition and source of all righteousness.
Are we seeking after Him His righteousness? We will be filled.
seeking with all our being, and having a relationship with the God thru Jesus
Seeking God leads to Life, forgiveness, blessings, provision, protection, understanding & wisdom, renewed strength, Rejoicing.
Continues seeking

Blessed are the merciful

compassinate - plan of salvation
God is a merciful God

God will have mercy on the merciful. Golden Rule dirk willems

Blessed are the pure in heart

Hebrews 11:27 NKJV

Pure in heart / people who live out what they believe
out of the abbuntance of the heart the mouth speaketh
we need to be cleaned up inside not just look good
we arent a perfect people but need to be asking God to show us where to grow
We will see God?

Blessed are the peacemakers

we need to first be at peace = inner faith - reconciliation with God
Peacemakers are not to be political only through prayers
To help those around us find peace thru showing them to the healer
we are to be helpers and allies in promoting peace - not stiring up strife
Abigal was a peacemaker
We need to be patient, gentle,
reward is being adopted as son/daughter of GOD

Blessed are they which are persecuted for rightouesness sake

not to be afraid of persecution -- faithfulness
if we are righteous we will face opposition - make sure we arent on the porch
In light of eternity we should regard it a not something to dread
Persecution has historicaly not come from the “world”
Living completely for God / we are to be a light to the world
Hipocrisy squeals and we are supposed to shine the light
Light shines out from living out Jesus teachings

Conclusion

Beatitudes: Humility - Mourning - Meek - Pursuing righteousness - merciful - Pure in heart - Peacemaker - Faithful
he never said it would be easy - but so many things that are worth it arent easy
when we acomplish something hard its rewarding
instead of a punishment for not obeying like old testament the beatitudes are blessings that following Jesus bring
we have nothing to dread we have nothing to fear for God Almighty is on our side - nothing in this world can compare to His Glory and a eternity with Him.
My hope is to inspire us to live out the teachings of Jesus
we have the call if we will answer
God doesnt need super stars or celebritys
he needs men ans women to live out His teaching
to sacrifice our will for His
