Just tell Jesus

Mark 1:29–34 NKJV

29 Now as soon as they had come out of the synagogue, they entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. 30 But Simon’s wife’s mother lay sick with a fever, and they told Him about her at once. 31 So He came and took her by the hand and lifted her up, and immediately the fever left her. And she served them. 32 At evening, when the sun had set, they brought to Him all who were sick and those who were demon-possessed. 33 And the whole city was gathered together at the door. 34 Then He healed many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons; and He did not allow the demons to speak, because they knew Him.

Prayer: As we look at this part of the book of Mark, we are going to talk about prayer. (VS 30, Anon they him of her)

A circuital part of our life’s when we need prayer, is when we have a burden.

Burden: Weight, a load. Notion of going down. (That is what a weight will do)

All kinds of things can bring us down. Sickness, family, finances. We can hang on to them, and allow them to bring us down, or we can give them to Jesus.

Psalm 55:22 (NKJV)

22 Cast your burden on the Lord,

And He shall sustain you;

He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.

Philippians 4:6–7 NKJV

6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Here he goes from the synagogue healing to the home of Peter, and the healing of his mother in law, to the healing of a multitude of people.

In each case, they bought their burden to Jesus.

We must tell Jesus about Every Burden. VS 29 -30

Mark 1:30 NKJV

30 But Simon’s wife’s mother lay sick with a fever, and they told Him about her at once.

They must have lived pretty close to the synagogue. Notice something here. They were with Jesus at the synagogue, after they left the synagogue they took Jesus home with them.

Jesus had taught at the synagogue, (with authority) He healed a demon possessed man, told the demon to keep quiet. The people were amazed, and now immediately, he goes with Peter to his house.

First; Peter was a follower of Jesus. Being a follower of Jesus, does not mean nothing bad will ever happen to you are your family.

a. We are not told how sick she was (Lk 4:38, Lk says “great fever)

b. It seems we pray when we are really sick (big sick) but what about when we are just a little sick?

c. We need to pray no matter how small the problem may be. Jesus wants to here about all our burdens, because he cares about all our burdens. ELab

d. Sometimes we pray and we get the answer we want. We may not get what we want. But still have to pray and trust the Lord.

2. We see all throughout the Bible were people prayed.

a) Hannah prayed for a son. I Sam 2:1-10

b) David prayed for forgiveness Ps 51:1-3

c) Solomon prayed for wisdom I Kings 3:6-9

d)Paul Prayed for healing (II Corn 12:8)

4. On this day their prayer (their request) to Jesus was very simple. Jesus my mother is sick.

b. God knows all our needs before we ask, but he still wants to here them

Matthew 6:8 (NKJV)

8 “Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him.

c. Prayer is talking with God. We can talk to him about anything, we can ask for anything, but we may not always get what you want, but He gives us what we need.

II. We must tell Jesus right away.

Mark 1:31 (NKJV)

31 So He came and took her by the hand and lifted her up, and immediately the fever left her. And she served them.

They didn’t wait, they tell Jesus immediately about her. They didn’t tell what to do, just that she was sick.

c. Jesus took her by the hand, lifted her up, immediately the fever left her.

d. And she ministered to them (she served them) When you are sick, and your fever goes away, it’s still a day or two before you are up and going strong. But began to serve them right away.

2.. When we have burdens, we need to got to Jesus first. How often do we try all kinds of other stuff first? Elab

d. We should always go to the Lord first

e. Talking with God should be a nature thing for us to do. (also means being in His word. Bible study for the week)

f. Our attitude cannot be, maybe I should pray about this. That needs to be the first thing we do.

2. The Lord does not want prayer to be a last resort.

a. Jesus told His disciples to pray to prevent temptation.

Matthew 26:41 NKJV

41 Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

b. Paul and Silas in prison after being beaten.

c. When we have a burden, we can either worry, or pray.

d. We can look at all the what ifs, or just pray. Pray, tell it to Jesus right away, and tell Him in faith.

III. We must tell Jesus in Faith VS 32-34

Mark 1:32–34 (NKJV)

32 At evening, when the sun had set, they brought to Him all who were sick and those who were demon-possessed.

33 And the whole city was gathered together at the door.

34 Then He healed many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons; and He did not allow the demons to speak, because they knew Him.

As sunset came, the Sabbath was over. The people came to Jesus.

a. They had seen a great miracle or at least heard about it.

b. Now they believed Jesus could heal other that were sick, those that were demon possessed.

c. Young, old, some had to be carried. They had faith that Jesus would heal them.

c. What is faith? “Acting upon trusted information”

d. When we pray in faith, we are praying because we know God care about us. We are praying in faith because we believe God’s word (trusted information)

James 1:6–7 (NKJV)

6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord;

2. Were going to look at three kinds of faith the people of Capernaum had.

a. Experienced faith: The man healed of a demon possession had faith because he knew what Jesus had done.

b. Observation faith: Many people who observed Jesus healing in the synagogue had faith to bring loved ones to Jesus for healing.

c. Second hand faith: Others were told by friends what Jesus had done, in faith brought their sick to Jesus for healing.

d. You can have experienced faith when God answers prayer for you.

e. You can have observation faith when you see God answer prayer for someone else.

f. You can have second hand faith when others (including the Bible) tell you what Jesus has done.

g. If you are praying, and it’s like nothing is happening, study the qualifications for prayer, and the hindrances to prayer.
