Evangelically

Last week we saw the trees as saved and unsaved
we saw the desert scrub as an unsaved person living in the desert
not knowing anything about a the living water the source of a new life
not even knowing that he is cursed by God
not knowing the depth of his sin
the cursed person is destined to the lake of fire
to the place of darkness
to the place of eternal loneliness
no love, no hope,
eternal excruciating pain
John 3 says Jesus came to save because we are condemned already
We saw the tree planted by the living water is the Christian after
he was planted Supernaturally by God into His Family
Was Given new life by Grace through faith
Ephesians 2:8–9 LEB
For by grace you are saved through faith, and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God; it is not from works, so that no one can boast.
Today we are going to back up to verse 5 and look at this passage as if it was a christian God is talking to here
Lets set the scene
The children of Israel have crossed into the promised land
Southern quartets have associated this with going into heaven
it might have been Heavenly when they entered, but sin has ruled the day and now it is a wasteland.
I see the crossing of the river into the promised land as being saved
life is good then the world hits you, we again sin, have doubts, Satan attacks,
troubles hit us on every side. our old friends desert us
bad theology is trying to teach us a false gospel
we try really hard to to good but we keep falling behind
so with this in mind lets look at
read Jeremiah 17 5-10.
Pray

The Desert Juniper

V 5 Thus says The Lord
These are the words of God
The Bible, the only source of God speaking to us today
We need to sit up and take notice
God has something to say
Cursed is the person
Last time we saw the curse as the curse of God against all mankind
this time we see the curse for someone in the promised land
this curse may be our self induced state of affairs
this curse may be our not being in Gods grace because our pride and missed placed trust
this may be a curse of us trying our best to do good and failing
this curse is because they have trusted in others instead of God
Psalm 118:8–9 LEB
It is better to take refuge in Yahweh than to trust in humans. It is better to take refuge in Yahweh than to trust princes.
Isaiah 31:1 LEB
Ah! Those who go down to Egypt for help! They rely on horses and trust in chariots because they are many, and in horsemen because they are very numerous, and they do not look to the holy one of Israel, and they do not consult Yahweh.
their trust is in the govt. to make everything better
their trust is in relying on someone else
relying on ones own abilities
relying on ones own strength
pulling ones self up by his boot straps
Self made
self supporting
Self assured
the american way
the american dream
read V 5-6
Outwardly he might be looking good
but inward he sees nothing but a wasteland
unsatisfied with life, cant stop sinning
his ministry is a drudgery
he cannot get ahead no matter how hard he tries
his life is falling apart
he does not understand why
he does not even see good when it slaps him in the face
he is a juniper in the desert, in a wasteland
always looking for a new way to do ministry, the latest fad
has his 5 minute devotions in the morning.
he is barely surviving and does not even know it
God says he is a shrub in a wasteland

A Planted Tree

V 7
Blessed is the one who trusts in God
many times in the Psalms it says that the man who trust in God is blessed
Psalm 34:8 LEB
Taste and see that Yahweh is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.
Remember this talking to the christian
so he has put his faith in Jesus
put his confidence in the savior for his salvation
reached out and touched the garment of Jesus because Jesus is the only one could save you
and when we do that the reservoir of grace is poured out in our heart
he like the children of Israel looked upon the serpent
we look at Jesus on the cross by faith
but we need to continue to live our whole life with this trust in God
we need to trust in God in every situation
we need to trust in God in every trial
we need to trust in God in every change of life
we need to live our life as a child of the king
we need to live as a child of God
to a small child its parents are the most wisest, strongest, and will never let me down
we need to become like a child to God
absolutely trusting in His wisdom and power to bring you through
Psalm 71:1–8 LEB
In you, O Yahweh, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame. In your righteousness deliver me and rescue me; incline your ear to me and save me. Be for me a rock of refuge to resort to always; you have ordained to save me, because you are my rock and my fortress. My God, rescue me from the hand of the wicked, from the grasp of the evildoer and the oppressor, because you are my hope, O Lord Yahweh, my confidence from my youth. Upon you I have leaned from birth. It was you who took me from the womb of my mother. My praise is of you continually. I have become a wonder to many, but you are my strong refuge. My mouth is filled with your praise, with your glory all the day.
V 8
Then we will not be like the rest of the world
worried and fretting about life
we will stand out, and people will want to know what is different about you
it will be an opportunity to tell them of the hope that is in you
When the drought comes, sickness hits us, break a wrist,
the dollar collapses, governments around the world collapses
wars are on the horizon, or war is in the back yard
our tree will be green and luxurious because our roots are planted firmly in Jesus
we even bear fruit because we are abiding in Christ
Where is your tree?
are you trusting in yourself? are you trusting in others?
Doctors, lawyers, government
or is your full trust in Jesus, not only for your salvation but for life
when others see you what do they see?
is it time to repent, and turn to the Almighty?
