Tonight we are going to continue our Victory Series tonight and talk about Claiming our Spiritual Inheritance. There are many who have yet to lay ahold of all that God has for them.
!!! There was a 11 year old boy that asked a question of his Dad. The boy had heard his Dad talking about his inheritance from his Dad. So he asked the question “Dad, what is inheritance?” “Well son it is when you are given gifts from another person either before or after they die.” “Oh, so you are getting all of your Dad’s old junk?” Exactly!
I have been going through the conversations with my Mom about what of her stuff I might want. I have explained that I have all that I need and more. THe only thing that mom is leaving that I couldn’t put a price on is a legacy of being Godly even when I’m sure she just wanted to throw her hands up and say “ok God I’m done.” That spiritual legacy is probably the best gift ever.
Tonight we will talk about the Spiritual Inheritance. Did you know if you will follow two scriptures that I am about to share it will change your spiritual destiny/inheritance? How many want to change your spiritual destiny/inheritance tonight? How many believe that it only takes a few words that can change your course? If we will hold on to what The Lord says we can change the course of our spiritual inheritance. So go with me to Joshua and I am going to show the you the beginning of receiving the inheritance. I want you to notice something here.
Joshua 1:6–7 (NKJV)
Be strong and of good courage, for to this people you shall divide as an inheritance the land which I swore to their fathers to give them. Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go.
You might be saying what do you mean by that? This isn’t a name it and claim it kind of thing Pastor...
No, no its not. Let’s go back to the beginning of the chapter.
Joshua 1:1–2 (NKJV)
After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, it came to pass that the Lord spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ assistant, saying: “Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore, arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them—the children of Israel.
We have to go back further in the old testamant to fully understand this.
Numbers 13:1–2 (NKJV)
And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Send men to spy out the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the children of Israel; from each tribe of their fathers you shall send a man, every one a leader among them.”
Numbers 13:17–20 (NKJV)
Then Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, and said to them, “Go up this way into the South, and go up to the mountains, and see what the land is like: whether the people who dwell in it are strong or weak, few or many; whether the land they dwell in is good or bad; whether the cities they inhabit are like camps or strongholds; whether the land is rich or poor; and whether there are forests there or not. Be of good courage. And bring some of the fruit of the land.” Now the time was the season of the first ripe grapes.
Be of Good Courage. There is a theme here that we need to be paying attention to. Be of Good Courage. You see things were about to get serious here for the spies. They were going to see the inheritance. They were going to be able to taste the inheritance. They were going to see that the land was truly flowing with Milk and Honey. They had been taught all of their lives that God would bless them. God would keep them. God would be gracious to them. Here me tonight, there are some of y’all here tonight that you have had the same blessings bestowed upon you. They still somehow were easily fooled to get off track. I want you to notice something here. Not one time did Moses say “Check out how big the people are.” Why? I believe that Moses still knew that God was in control and that no matter how big the people were, God would help the people be victorious.
Now Check this out.
Numbers 13:21–33 (NKJV)
So they went up and spied out the land from the Wilderness of Zin as far as Rehob, near the entrance of Hamath. And they went up through the South and came to Hebron; Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the descendants of Anak, were there. (Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.) Then they came to the Valley of Eshcol, and there cut down a branch with one cluster of grapes; they carried it between two of them on a pole. They also brought some of the pomegranates and figs. The place was called the Valley of Eshcol, because of the cluster which the men of Israel cut down there. And they returned from spying out the land after forty days.
Now they departed and came back to Moses and Aaron and all the congregation of the children of Israel in the Wilderness of Paran, at Kadesh; they brought back word to them and to all the congregation, and showed them the fruit of the land. Then they told him, and said: “We went to the land where you sent us. It truly flows with milk and honey, and this is its fruit. Nevertheless the people who dwell in the land are strong; the cities are fortified and very large; moreover we saw the descendants of Anak there. The Amalekites dwell in the land of the South; the Hittites, the Jebusites, and the Amorites dwell in the mountains; and the Canaanites dwell by the sea and along the banks of the Jordan.”
Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, “Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it.”
But the men who had gone up with him said, “We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we.” And they gave the children of Israel a bad report of the land which they had spied out, saying, “The land through which we have gone as spies is a land that devours its inhabitants, and all the people whom we saw in it are men of great stature. There we saw the giants (the descendants of Anak came from the giants); and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight.”
Notice what Caleb said… Let’s do this right now! I think it is prudent to notice what God said about the ten and not the two. To the ten and Moses he said they would die in the wilderness and to the two he said they would inherit the promise land. Everywhere they put there feet. I am here tonight to challenge you to be like the two. Be like Joshua and Caleb and keep the opinion that if God be for you then who can stand against you. Now lets go forward 40 years, let see the promise about to come forth.
Be Strong and of Good Courage! Reclaim your Spiritual Inheritance.
Joshua 1:1–9 (NKJV)
After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, it came to pass that the Lord spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ assistant, saying: “Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore, arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them—the children of Israel. Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you, as I said to Moses. From the wilderness and this Lebanon as far as the great river, the River Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and to the Great Sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your territory. No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you. This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
What will you do tonight. I am going to open up these altars tonight and challenge you to begin to:
Claim Your Spiritual Inheritance!
