Who then is this about whom I hear such things?
Jesus' thoughts and actions have created a great question for his time and our time. That question is, Who, indeed, is Jesus?
The person of Jesus is always a mystery, and many people do not know who Jesus truly is. I myself struggle to respond to a Rabi whom I met. The Rabbi told me, "When you pray for me, please do not mention the name of Jesus because it offends me, and I do not know who Jesus is. How would you answer to that Rabbi?
When I came back home from that meeting, I wanted to the Rabbi that Jesus is my friend who loves me more than anything else, he is my savior, who was God, became man for me, suffered for me, died for me, rose again for me. He is my all in all. I wished I could answer that to the Rabbi.
We may have different answers about who Jesus is, but everyone is invited to let all the people know who Jesus truly is.
King Herod personally wanted to come and see Jesus out of his curiosity. We, Christ's disciples, know and believe in Jesus from our hearts, and we know how to turn to him, seek and desire to meet him, for we know he is "the way, and the truth, and the life" (Jn 14:6).
I know sometimes it is challenging to speak about Jesus' name to others. But the good news is that we do not have to proclaim Jesus by ourselves alone; we have Jesus who is always helping us, revealing himself in us and through us in many ways. As today at this altar, he is revealing himself to us through the Eucharist.
Christ is always revealing, and Christ can never be kept here only for you and me. Christ must be known by everybody.
Today's Gospel invites us to get to know and believe from our hearts who Jesus truly is and then always be ready to give the correct answer to those who question us about the person of Jesus Christ, who is our life and our salvation.
Who is this man?
