Paul was appointed to the defense of the Gospel, Philippians 1:15-16
Some, to be sure, are preaching Christ even from envy and strife, but some also from good will;
the latter do it out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the gospel;
Irritation
Not Indignation, Ephesians 4:26

Therefore, knowing the fear of the Lord, we persuade humans. And we are manifested to God, and we also hope to be manifested in your conscience.
Longing - Their longing for Paul, 2 Corinthians 7:7
2 Corinthians 7:7
And not only in his coming, but also in the encouragement that he was encouraged on the basis of you while announcing to us your longing, your lamentation, your zeal concerning me, just as it is me to rejoice more,
Zeal - for Paul, 2 Corinthians 7:7
2 Corinthians 7:7
And not only in his coming, but also in the encouragement that he was encouraged on the basis of you while announcing to us your longing, your lamentation, your zeal concerning me, just as it is me to rejoice more,
Vindication

Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord.
