Introduction
It is critical to understand who Jesus is.
In this conference, we will begin to examine Him as the Bible reveals Him.
I hope to lead us to worship of Him!
nasb
We are under obligation to learn about the Lord:
We are under obligation to disciple the nations with what we learn from the Lord:
Pre-existence:
Jesus Christ is God:
This means that He is equal with God the Father and God the Holy Spirit.
He is no less God than either of them.
cf.
He is the Son of God:
As the Lamb of God, the Father determined that a Man would die for the penalty of sins of His people, and not an animal.
Therefore, God caused a woman to bear the Child who has God has His Father so that that Man would be God and Man.
He is the Son of David:
Birth:
Luke 2:4–17 (NASB95)
4 Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David, 5 in order to register along with Mary, who was engaged to him, and was with child.
6 While they were there, the days were completed for her to give birth.
7 And she gave birth to her firstborn son; and she wrapped Him in cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
8 In the same region there were some shepherds staying out in the fields and keeping watch over their flock by night.
9 And an angel of the Lord suddenly stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them; and they were terribly frightened.
10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; 11 for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
12 “This will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
13 And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, 14 “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased.”
15 When the angels had gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds began saying to one another, “Let us go straight to Bethlehem then, and see this thing that has happened which the Lord has made known to us.” 16 So they came in a hurry and found their way to Mary and Joseph, and the baby as He lay in the manger.
17 When they had seen this, they made known the statement which had been told them about this Child.
Born under the Law in order to fulfill the Law:
Therefore, righteousness that was required of the Jews by the Law is accomplished by Jesus Christ.
He had to be a Man for that to be the case:
He had to be born of a virgin-Genesis 3:15; Isaiah 7:14.
He had to be able to obey the Mosaic Law to perfection-Galatians 4:4; Deuteronomy 18:18.
He had to be able to sit on the throne of David-2 Samuel 7:16.
He had to be from one of the tribes of Jacob, Judah-Genesis 49:8-10.
He had to be able to suffer betrayal-Psalm 41:9.
He had to be able to suffer rejection by the Jews-Isaiah 6:8-13.
He had to be able to suffer rejection by the Father-Psalm 22:1-2.
He had to be able to die-Psalm 40:6-8.
He had to be able to be raised to life again-Daniel 9:27; cf Psalm 16:8-11.
Childhood
The youth of Jesus Christ is spoken of very little in Scripture.
But there are some pictures we can of it we can know about:
His parents were devout-Matthew 1:18-19
His brothers and sisters did not believe Him-John 7:1ff.
He was raised as a carpenter
