According to the Bible, where many demon-possessed people were delivered and healed of their afflictions, part of what Jesus did on earth was to free individuals from physical, mental, and spiritual oppression, and this demon-possessed man at the Gerasenes demonstrates that deliverance is an integral part of the Christian faith and that Jesus has the power to deliver.

Our fight is not against flesh and blood, it is against the rulers, authorities and spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. We can fight like Joshua (in the natural) all we want, but until we start fighting like Moses (in prayer) we will lose. Neglect of prayer means losing the battle. The banner we live under means our war is fought with hands raised, knees bowed and self-sufficiency slaughtered.

Before Jesus ascended to his throne seated in power, with all authority in heaven & earth, he commissioned his church to disciple the nations for they are his inheritance (Psalm 2:8). The witness & joy of the Apostles was to witness the kingdom of God coming into the world whereas previously it was only hoped for. Now the enemies of God are being put under our Lord Jesus' feet. How do we live in the kingdom that is here but not fully yet? How do we live as though the kingdom that will be is now?
