5-31-09
What this isn’t

· How we lost it
· And how He wants to give it BACK to us
Gen 1
· Journey of Authority is a MAJOR theme throughout the Bible
FIRST moment see concept of Man in authority and we see
Authority is a Gift Given To Man
· Genesis– Man created
· Genesis 1:
26 Then God said, “Let aUs make bman in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them crule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the 1sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” [1]

7287 רָדָה, רָדָה [radah /raw·daw/] v. A primitive root; TWOT 2121, 2122; GK 8097 and 8098; 27 occurrences; AV translates as “rule” 13 times, “dominion” nine times, “take” twice, “prevaileth” once, “reign” once, and “ruler” once. 1 to rule, have dominion, dominate, tread down. 1a (Qal) to have dominion, rule, subjugate. 1b (Hiphil) to cause to dominate. 2 to scrape out. 2a (Qal) to scrape, scrape out
This verbal root is found in later Semitic dialects (but not Ugaritic). It occurs in two senses. One is cognate to Akkadian radu although the Hebrew root developed the specialized meaning “to tread” and is used in the Qal stem in this sense only once (Joel 4:13), “Come! Tread! for the winepress is full, the vats are overflowing.” The second meaning is “to rule” and is used some twenty-two times in the ot, occurring in every section and type of context. The initial usage appears in Gen 1:28, “And let them rule over the fish of the sea.” (The allusion to this verse in Ps 8:6 [H 7] uses māšal.)[3]
What I want us to see here:

o Whether Passive
o Bondage

· Living/giving to all around you

The verb and noun appear three times each; the adjective is attested only once. Each of the three words has its corresponding cognate form in ot Aramaic and appears there with similar meanings. The Hebrew verb signifies “over-power,” whether God over mad (Job 24:20), one man over another (Eccl 4:12), or distress and anguish over the wicked (Job 15:14). The noun refers to the “power” or “authority” of a kingdom (Dan 11:17) or a ruler (Est 9:29; 10:2). Commentators are generally agreed that the unexpressed subject of the adjective in Eccl 6:10 is God; the verse, then, emphasizes the fact that God is mightier than man.
