What this isn’t

·                    Not authority teaching about man’s  authority over man

·                    Nor church authority and government

 

What I want to talk about:  How GOD imparts HIS Authority into Mankind

·                    How it works

·                    How we lost it

·                    And how He wants to give it BACK to us

 

Gen 1

·                    Journey of Authority is a MAJOR theme throughout the Bible

 

*FIRST moment see concept of Man in authority and we see *

*Authority is a Gift Given To Man*

·                    Genesis– Man created

·                    *Genesis 1:*

*26          *Then God said, “Let aUs make bman in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them crule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the 1sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”

*7287 **רָדָה**, **רָדָה* [/radah/ ~/raw·*daw*~/] v.

A primitive root; TWOT 2121, 2122; GK 8097 and 8098; 27 occurrences; AV translates as “rule” 13 times, “dominion” nine times, “take” twice, “prevaileth” once, “reign” once, and “ruler” once.

*1* to rule, have dominion, dominate, tread down.

1a (Qal) to have dominion, rule, subjugate.

1b (Hiphil) to cause to dominate.

*2* to scrape out.

2a (Qal) to scrape, scrape out.

Imagine Freedom of Adam and Eve—before sin

·                    Hard to imagine—no sin—no limits

·                    No authority challenged—no warfare—no battle

·                    Wisdom—mind like computer—name every creature

·                    Peace—develop

 

There’s something in our NATURE designed to RULE

·                    Have authority in our life

·                    In passage—see animals, birds, ALL THE EARTH

·                    Rule~/authority in all of their lives

 

Develop

·                    One of the reasons the American dream so powerful

·                    Tapped into a lost truth—self-determination

·                    Reflected Free will

 

When I say called to rule~/authority NOT saying—all kings

·                    But we are called to lead in our lives

·                    God designed us with a place to have INFLUENCE~/authority

·                    *We ALL are meant to operate in our SPHERE of authority*

 

When God’s authority operating in your life

·                    Freedom to be alive in His purpose for your life

·                    Free to serve

·                    Dream—create WITHOUT *limitations!!*

·                    Lead

·                    Influence

·                    Strength in life

·                    Not swayed by things around you

·                    SET pace

·                    Peer pressure

o       Create your OWN peer pressure (Kit’s daughter)

·                    World system pressure

 

Living God’s authority flowing in life

·                    Gift to man

 

Authority is a gift from God

·                    Man still carries gift

·                    Gifts and callings without repentance

·                    Man has abused Gift—how many know???

·                    But when RIGHTLY aligned—POWERFUL~/wonderful gift

·                    Peace—strength

 

In order for it to operate most healthy

·                    Proper

·                    Need to be living life UNDER His authority

·                    Define

 

When living under His rule

 

When you move OUT from authority in life

·                    Gets us in BIG TIME trouble

 

In fact, gonna see that in Chapter 3

This verbal root is found in later Semitic dialects (but not Ugaritic).

It occurs in two senses.

One is cognate to Akkadian /radu/ although the Hebrew root developed the specialized meaning “to tread” and is used in the Qal stem in this sense only once (Joel 4:13), “Come!

Tread! for the winepress is full, the vats are overflowing.”

The second meaning is “to rule” and is used some twenty-two times in the ot, occurring in every section and type of context.

The initial usage appears in Gen 1:28, “And let them rule over the fish of the sea.”

(The allusion to this verse in Ps 8:6 [H 7] uses /māšal/.)[3]

What I want us to see here: 

·                    God still has a plan for man to walk in authority

·                    *It’s a GOOD plan!!*

o       In your DNA—God’s design

o       Choice—self-decision

 

Enemy’s scheme

·                    Skew that into PRIDE~/rebellion

o       Out from UNDER cover

·                    Block the freedom—frustrate

o       Whether Passive

o       Bondage

 

Kingdom authority

·                    Living~/giving to all around you
