My Seminary Days

a. I loved it

i. It opened to me the wonders of God’s word.

ii. The life of Christ is my favorite subject

iii. Theology is my second

b. Seminary Churches

i. There were small country churches scattered through out Louisville and Southern Indiana

ii. The second one was Goshen Baptist Church. It was a fun place to pastor

Theological point of view

i. Two things existed before God created the earth

ii. Space and time – It got me to thinking

God is not bound by space or time

.

We:

We want to believe

a. We want to believe God is looking out for us.

i. But we see the world – and it’s evil

ii. We see our own heartache and troubles

iii. I call it crawling in bed and putting the cover over our heads and just hide.

b. It can seem to us that the throne of the universe is empty.

i. It can seem that God has just threw up his hands

But he hasn’t

God:

a. God is still on the throne.

ii. Underline that

iii. Shout that from the roof top

iv. This is the secret of peace and joy in the midst of a troubled world.

The biggest problem is not evil

i. But the presence of good.

ii. Why has God not poured out his wrath on the evil in this world?

iii. God is on the throne, and He has the power to judge this world right now

He has restrained his wrath.

i. This is not the day of judgment.

This is the day of salvation.

iii. For the Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns.

iv. He reigns in grace and not wrath

v. 2 Peter 3:9 (NIV) — 9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

vi. This is why when we stumble grace steps in.

When God Reigns from the Throne of Heaven

a. God already knows the outcome of your problem

i. Hebrews 13:8 (NLT) — 8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

b. God is looking out for us

i. Psalm 37:23 (NLT) — 23 The Lorddirects the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives.

ii. God is directing our paths

iii. He delights in detail of our lives

c. God even takes this one step further

i. Psalm 37:24 (NLT) — 24 Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the Lord holds them by the hand.

ii. “If we stumble” even in our failures God’s grace catches us.

iii. Not wrath grace

iv. Imagine the power of that passage

v. The power of grace

vi. We never have to hide from God

vii. Because of grace

viii. God never gives up on us

ix. By grace you are saved.

x. The Lord Reigns

xi. He reigns with grace.

When doubt creeps in.

a. God is working behind the scenes

To reveal his purpose

– we don’t always get the answer we want

He is teaching us to walk by faith

– All things work for good

He is building our confidence

– You can’t depend on God when you depend on yourself

He is instilling hope

- Hope is the heartbeat of God’s promises.

We walk by faith not by see.

i. His wonderful grace sustain us.
