Introduction
In our world today and especially in our own culture, marriage has taken many a hit and continues to be shunned by many.
Given the choice, many would rather just cohabitate outside of an official marital relationship.
“For example, nearly 80%—almost 8 in 10—of US teenagers (15–19 years old) ‘expect to cohabit before marriage.’”
Many have decided that marriage is simply a human institution–a manmade construction–which they feel no need to be bound by.
Even in the Christian community these days, many have not held marriage up as sacred, binding, and beneficial.
Divorce rates for those deemed ‘born again’ are as high as the national averages though ‘evangelicals’ are still among the lowest who get divorced.
So many, even in the church, don’t live out marriage in light of the Scriptures.
Consequently, their marriages are lived outside of God’s plan for marriage.
And, they don’t enjoy many of God’s intended benefits as they ignore the plain teaching of the Bible on this foundational subject.
We here at DPCC want to go on the record with this series in expounding what the Word of God teaches us about marriage and family life so that we can live and be strengthened in God-honoring biblical marriages and families.
To that end let us look at Genesis 1, so that we can behold the majesty and goodness of the One who is the Creator of marriage in the first place.

The general meaning of the verb appears to be “to bring under one’s control for one’s advantage.”
In Gen 1:28 one might paraphrase it as follows: “harness its potential and use its resources for your benefit.”
In an ancient Israelite context this would suggest cultivating its fields, mining its mineral riches, using its trees for construction, and domesticating its animals.
4. Rule the other creatures
c.
God made provisions for sustaining mankind as well as those under their dominion
IV.
God’s pronouncement on His creation (Gen 1:31)
Everything God made was very good!
