3 Stories

This is a message to myself a year ago.
Voice of the young man in
Intro about who we are.
Dutch Reformedish in theology and Anglican lite in practice.
Story 1: How we started
We were gathering for dinners and trying to talk about what a church plant might look like.
Realized we just need to start meeting.
We didn’t need to have a crazy setup.
We didn’t need a grand opening.
In fact we have actively avoided language and hype that would attract people from other churches, or give the impression of a business.
Bivo really is a gift early on.
Our logo is still an image I drew on Instagram that has three emojis in it.
Story 2: We canceled Easter
Story 3: We let others do it
It’s true that church planting seems to put a disproportionate burden on the planter and his family.
On the other hand, all pastors live with a sense that if we weren’t there to do it, the primordial waters of chaos will flow in and your church will be destroyed.
Beautiful things:
The children are being formed.
The missionaries are healing and resting.
Nick is possibly in the best spot he’s been in in years.
General thoughts:
Don’t reverse engineer the things that are really important for you. (Membership) (Elders)
Let 100 year plans be restful and rooting for the people in the church.
Built in plan for re-assesment once established.
Questions:
Does your church ever talk about church planting,
and if so, what are the reasons for it?
How are you preparing leaders in your community for the task of church planting?
