Today will be the second sermon in our series leading up to Christmas Day…as we look at different aspects of who Jesus is.
Who is this child born in a manger of a virgin mother…and why was He born?
Last week we looked at…the beginning…Genesis 3 15...
And we saw the powerful promise…that JEsus is the one who will crush Satan’s skull...
That after the fall…after the deception of woman and the sin of Adam…God curses Satan…and that curse includes the gospel truth that one day one will come to put an end to the devil…and that satan skull crrusher is Jesus!

SLIDE
And we know He is Jesus!
Today I want to look brifly at Isaiah 7 and then land in Isaiah 9…most specifically verses 6-7...
What is interesting about Genesis 43 and Isaiah and the entire Chrstian message is this…think of Genesis 3 15...
What a glorious truth…Jesus will come to crush the enemy…but notice that this powerful promise is in the midst of what seems like disaster…the fall…even ate of the fruit…man did nothing about it and worse he ate of it himself…and out of that horrible news…God gives us hope in the news that he will send His Son to save His people from sin and Satan!
And what we see in Isaiah in similar…we get these promises of a coming one…a Savior…a savior…and these promises come in the midst of disaster...
When you enter into Isaiah 7 An evil king is over Judah…King Ahaz…and the kings of the north are plotting to take him out…and so the King of Judah does the unthinkable…he joins forces with a pagan nation…which God has specifically forbid...
God sends the prophet Isaiah to to Ahaz and tells Isaiah him…God knows this is happening…and then he tells the king to ask for a sign from the Lord…so he will know the Lord will not let the let the 2 kings of the north conquer Judah...
But Ahaz refuses to listen…he has already made up his mind…he refuses to ask for a sign from the Lord...
And we get this...

God is telling King Ahaz…I will presee Judah…even if I have to do it miraculoisly I will preseve the line of David…I will sent the one...
God has promised David...“David, you’ll always have a man on the throne.
Your kingdom will never end.”
And now through the prophet Isaiah God is saying...
If I have to bring the one from a virgin…I will do it…and the one born of a virgin will be God with us!
What a promise!
In the midst of crisis in the garden God promised to send a son born of woman that would crush the skull of Satan...
And now chaos…Judah about to be attacked…but the Messiah must come from Judah…the king of Judah about to partner with pagans...
And God sends a promise...
And so when the angel comes to Joseph to tell him that Mary is pregnant with Jesus the Messiah...
The angel tells Joseph...
And so we see God will send a savior that will crush the skull of Satan…God will send a Son born of a virgin…and He will be…He is…God with us...
And when you get to Isaiah 9 Isreal is in a crisis again…they are not living by faith…they are following idols…God warns the prophet Isaiah not to follow those who are of Isreal…becasue jusgment is coming for them...
God to Isaiah...
SLIDE
When God’s people turn their back on God’s ways…and think they can worship and follow God their way…and yet still be saved by God…God brings this kind of judgement...
Then God gives Isaiah an instruction...
SLIDE
Judgment is coming for those ho call themslves my people but are not…so hold hast to the Word…protect the Word…among those who are true disciples...
God had said he will send a Satan skull crusher…and that He will one day send a baby born of a virgin who will be God with us...
And now here in Isaiah 9 God sends another promise in the midts of crisis of faith and falseness among those who think they are His but are not...
Open to…
SLIDE
God’s powerful promising Word to us His church this morning...
Isreal is worshipping idols…hope is fading…will God really send the seed of woman…will true victory ever come?
And in the midst of that we get this prophecy from Isaiah…and again a prophecy about a child to be born...
Born of woman to crush Satan...
Born of a virgin to be God with us...
And now this...
Another promise...
Let’s look at a few things befoer we dig into verses 6 and 7...
It starts with a promise of eventiual joy…full joy…there will be no gloom…some day…in the future…for her was in anguish...
And then notice it is written in the past tense for part of it…in the former time...
Interetting right…why speak a prohecy in the past tense?
Because the prophecy is so certain to happen that the prophet can spoeak as though it has happenend...

God will make a way…verse 1…God will make a way…after the nation is brought into contempt…judgement…there will be joy…and the way to joy will be reveelaed...
