Honoring God by Obeying His Word, part 1 // James 1:19-21 // Pastor Jose

The way that we make it out in our trials is by going to God's word because the Bible says, if any of us lack wisdom, we simply need to ask you see, typically our prayers when we in the trial is going to get me out, but James needs to be asked God for wisdom, Lord, what are you teaching me in that trial and what should be my action during this trial that I face? And that's what James calls us to last week, we looked at Temptations, remember count it all joy when you and counter, okay? These are tests that that we get but hear Temptations is what we put our self into. This was not something you encountered but that was a trial that you Created. This is our call Temptations. That's when we are falling into sin, with giving into our desires, once we break God's law. What's going to happen with? There will be consequences. God will forgive you. I forgive you for anything that you do, okay? God will forgive you, but you always still have to deal with the consequences. You always have to deal with the consequences. This is all the Temptations. You brought on yourself and you fall into the Temptations. God says a

You remain steadfast fall into your Temptations. God says you better remember who I am because every good and perfect gift comes from me. So God is saying, hey, I am a good god and I only do good things and God isn't a next time. You are tempted, don't fall into that trap because we would desire. Let's to send and send lives to death. So you have that desire, then now you are being deceived, then you go. You make a decision to send and then that decision to send leads to destruction. So James is saying, don't fall for the Trap, don't let your desire destroy you. And jams tells us last week. Told us last week that don't let your Temptations If you out. And today, we're going to look at verse 19 to 27. Hear James is talking about honoring God by obeying his word. We need to honor God by obeying his word so far as we honor God of our life. We honor God in our trials, we honor God and our Temptations. And now James is saying, we need to honor God by obeying his word. We honor God by obeying his word. Father, has we go to your work. Now, make today not be another waste of time. The father, may your work goes to our heart changes, transformed into your likeness and be more like Christ in Jesus name. We pray. Amen. In one sentence, our actions. Prove what we truly believe our actions. Prove what we truly believe. Whatever actions we take in our life. That's what we truly believe and we will see three things this morning that James will teach us in Jamesburg 1:19 to 27. It says, we honor God by obeying his word when our faith is not fluffy. When our belief, dictates our behavior and we honor God by obeying him when our reality lines up with our religion. We honor God by obeying his word when our faith is not fluffy. When our believe the taste, our action will be a pure and when our reality lines up with our religion. So, let's go with the first one. We honor God by obeying his word when our faith is not fluffy. You see a lot of us unfortunately our faith is very superficial. The word fluffy means that is very superficial it's lacking depth or seriousness and for a lot of us often that people would listen to us when we share the gospel with them because they don't see what effects that our God will have an ad in our lives. So if the gospel does not have any effect into our own lives, our lives. Look exactly like the people we are trying to share the gospel with then they do not take us seriously. Like for example, if you see that you have other friends of Warren unbelievers and I feel very comfortable cussing around you. And every other word that they use is an expletives. They don't take you seriously. They don't take your face seriously. And some of us even use the same words as we talkin to them, don't we?

How can we share the gospel with them? We cannot see Jim says, the way that we all put on our God by obeying him, our faith cannot be fluffy. It cannot be a superficial face. It cannot lock, except it has to be a serious face. People response to what is real even when they don't listen to you then, but they know that there is somebody real. There is somebody serious, you see when people when they speaking around you that whenever they would say, like, you know, a cuss word and they don't say sorry to you or all, I'm sorry, then they don't know where you are. And probably you've never told him where you are, you've never told them, what you stand for then, your faith is is is just fluffy. Okay, it's not real, it's not serious. And that is just one example, in the way that our faith is just very fluffy and I can give you countless other examples, we can look at our lives and that's why Jim starts here in verse 9 says know this. My beloved Brothers let every person be let everybody be quick to hear slow to speak. Slow to anger. Any of you have been able to do that perfectly?

You not slow to speak, speaking to somebody to explain something on the phone to me. And then one another, we ain't that to each other. Then that tells you you have our problem. You know, and I know that was preparing for the message. Next time I did better. Okay. Slow to speak. I quit to hear but slow to anger. But here in the context of this verse listen, real good here and the context of this verse here, remember we talkin about Temptation K member all the scriptures related together here in the context of this verse you're here, we understand this just just in our natural context and in our day-to-day life, all of us struggle with keeping our tongues together with always have to say something. And we don't always listen and then we like to react and hear the context year in gems in verse 19. Here he is speaking to God, okay, it's about guy. You remember, we struggle in Temptations. We struggle and our trials, and Anna saying, no, my beloved Brothers. Let every person be quick to hear. And here is what Quick to hear the word of God. So when you face your trials, when You Face your Temptation, God says, be quick to hear what I have to say in the matter. That's what it says my brother's. If you face trials, you ask me for wisdom. Kso, hear James is talking about here, a weave, our relationship with God. And James is saying hey we need to be quick to hear what God has to say on every matter. Every trial that we faced every Temptation that we Face. Our reaction is to be the rerun to God's word. And see what God's word says on the matter. Or that's why we memorize scripture, that's why we meditate on scripture. So that when we faced with temptation, we Face a trial. We already know what God's word says in the matter. We pull it out of our memory. We pull it out of our heart and then we go ahead and then we speak God's word into that trial told that we Face know this. Genesis quick to hear slow to speak and slow to anger just speaking here but our vertical relationship relationship with God is one where we listen to God, right away with what he says. And then when it says receive the implanted word of God, that means you need to put on the new self. You are safe. Now you have the word of God. So now you have a new creature, that's what. 2nd Corinthians 5:17 says 8, you are a new creature. All things have passed away and now, God is doing something new in your life. And James is saying a put up the old self because the old self is going to keep coming back is going to keep coming back to you telling you you don't have to do this questioning God's word. Remember Eve, do you really have to do this? Did God really say we at war with you, trying to bring you back to the old self? Now, your task, as a Believer, is to go with the implanted word of God that is in you, that is able to help you live a Victorious Life. Look at Proverbs 17:27 Hill, going to love this. Look at this.

Whoever restrains his word has what knowledge? And he who has a cool spirit. Is a man of

If you can do this, you'll be married forever.

Every strand, this word has knowledge and who has a cool spirit. Is a man of understanding, you will be a man with many friends. You will be a person with many friends. If you can do this verse If you're going to be strange, your word Bible says you have knowledge. And when you have a cool Spirit, we wear the cool Spirit you. A man of understanding. Let your Words Be Few. See, all of us have gotten into the Habit. Special in our me culture, we like to question everything. God's word says, we always think there's a different meaning to it. So you need to put up and you need to put on, okay? So we have to be very intentional about our face. That's the only way that it is going. The word of God is going to save ourselves. We need to let some things go, we can come to Christ and remain exactly the same. It says, put on the armor of light. Let us walk properly as, in the day, not in orgies or junk in this matter in sexual immorality and sensuality met him quarrelling and jealousy. But do I put on the Lord Jesus Christ? And then, what does he say? Make no provision for the flesh to gratify this desire. So, God is saying, if you make provision for the flesh, you going to gratify this desire? Your phones are going to have to put some filters in your phone. There are some things that you just you have to block, you have to put some barriers. That's the only way that you going to overcome. If you're in some places, you can be by yourself, don't be by yourself. You are going to fall. That's what you got, like, radical imputation in the Bible. That's when he says, like, you know, if your eyes cuz you just said, Pluck it out. If your right arm causes you to sin, what do you do? Cut it off. Whatever whatever place is if you feel like you're going to be in a place, where is going to encourage you to do anything that is wrong with her. That means whenever we hear God's word, God's word, says, 8 do this, you just do it. God's word of says, don't do this. You don't do it. And then you are, but you be quiet before. God. That's why you sit in his presence, you meditate on his word, let his word, change your life. Let his word do its work in you and change u, n n, n n a mold you into his likeness. So James is telling us this day. Our first responsibility as believer, is that we receive God's word. That means we put on the Lord, Jesus Christ in us so that we make some Provisions for the Flash. And just take it in. I bet, but rather a lot of time we struggled and we we want to question your ward. Father, forgive us for every time we question your word, and we're responding anger to your word. Instead of just responding in humility,

It's a bother. When we receive the implanted word that you have, put a nice that you have sealed us with when we came to you.

Maybe we just do it. They were just live according to your word. Not, according to our eyes, or there's made our lives, be different May Our Lives be different from those who are in the world that we have a responsibility to share the gospel with. Let us not toy with sin like Eve. Listening to the devil. Did God really say yes that's what God say.
