Scripture: Romans 1:18-23

18     For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;

19     Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. 20     For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: 21     Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22     Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, 23     And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things in them: or, to them

Main Idea:

There are three reasons why I believe in God

Purpose (Audience Need, Desired Response:

My purpose is

Introduction:

Atheisim is the beleif that there is no God. There are two types of atheists. There is the dogmatic atheist who openly repudiates God. Then you have the practical atheist who lives as if there is no God. That is most people in church today.

Outline:

I. I believe in God because He created the universe.

This is true because...

A. The Bible states this truth.

  1. Genesis 1:1 - In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth
  2. Job 38:4 - “Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding

B. Logic confirms this truth.

  1. For every effect, there is a cause. In other words, there is a reason for everything. The universe is an effect. Therefore, it must have a cause. There can never be an infinite regress of causes. There must be a First Cause that begins the causes.
  2. Kepler, the astronomer, was troubled by one of his friends who denied the existence of God and took the view of the universe which prevails in some circles today, namely, that it came into being of itself by mechanical methods. Kepler, in order to convince his friend, constructed a model of the sun with the planets circling round it. When his friend came into the Observatory and saw the beautiful model, he exclaimed with delight, “How beautiful it is! Who made it?” And Kepler carelessly answered, “No one made it: it made itself.” His friend looked at him and said, “Nonsense, tell me who made it.” Kepler then replied, “Friend, you say that this little toy could not make itself. It is but a very weak imitation of this great universe which, I understood, you believe did make itself

C. Science confirms this truth.

  1. We learn from the astronomers that the Milky Way, the disc-shaped galaxy to which our sun belongs, is a family of more than 100 billion stars. And these scientists say there may be as many as 100 billion other galaxies in the universe. And they believe that the billions of these galaxies’ billion stars may have hundreds of millions of planets like our earth. God’s creation from a one-sentence command!
      • He is omnipotent -
            • Job 42:2 Iknow that thou canst do everything, and that no purpose of thin can be restrained.
            • Genesis 18:14 - Is anything too hard for the Lord?
      • He is omniscience -
            • Psalms 147:4 - He determines the number of the stars; he gives to all of them their names.
            • Psalms 139:2-4 You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar. 3 You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways. 4 Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O Lord, you know it altogether

II. I believe in God because He designed the universe.

  • This is true because

A. The Bible states this truth.

# 1. Job 38:5 - Who determined its measurements—surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon it

B. Logic confirms this truth.

  1. For every design there is a designer. Can we build a house by taking the blocks, wood and cement and throwing them in the air and it will come down into a house. But people who believe that this world came into existence want us to believe that very same thing.

C. Science confirms this truth.

  1. The earth spins on its axis, like a top, at the speed of one-third mile per second or 1,000 miles per hour. If it were 100 miles per hour, the earth would alternately freeze and burn.
  2. The earth weaves slowly back and forth on its axis, tilting to an angle of 23 degrees, then swinging slowly back, twice a year. This gives us our seasons.
      • He hold the earth steady so that it stays at 23 degree angle. Hebrews 1:3 says,... "and he upholds the universe by the word of his power.
      • He designed the universe so as to give us a four season. - He has Wisdom

III. I believe in God because my personal experience with Him.

A. He answered my prayers.

  1. When I was diagnosed with cancer at 28 years old, He healed me.
  2. When I was sleep and someone came into my apartment, He protected me.
