Here in the United States we have political freedom and religious freedom because of those friends‑‑forefathers and other patriots‑‑who literally gave their lives for us.

2. If you have been born again and are a follower of Jesus, it is not because you first decided to be a Christian.

"You are my friends, if you do what I command you."

We are not saved as a result of our keeping Jesus' commandments perfectly.

It is the shed blood of Jesus that saves us.

It is all of His grace, not our works.

we do keep Jesus' commandments as a result of our being saved.

I know them and they follow Me.

>When I was a child and a young man I lived on a ranch in South Texas.

Many, many times I have worked with the borregos and the goats.

As a child, I had learned Psalm 23, "The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.

He leads me to green pastures;

But I never really understood what it meant to follow Jesus as the sheep follow their shepherd, until about 20 years ago.

I was traveling in Palestine.

I saw a shepherd, dressed in long, flowing robes, walking beside a busy street.

Following him, single file, was a flock of sheep and goats.
Siguiente él, archivo solo, era una bandada de oveja y cabras.
The shepherd crossed the busy street, walking in front of a large truck, and then behind a camel (loaded with bananas), and then in front of a tourist bus, and so he made his way through 8 lanes of traffic.
El pastor cruzó la calle ocupada, camina delante de un camión grande, y entonces atrás un camello (cargado con bananas), y entonces delante de un autobús turístico, y para que hizo su manera por 8 sendas de tráfico.
Those sheep and goats followed him, single file, each one taking each step the shepherd took.

>My brothers and sisters, this is what it means to be a friend of Jesus.

It means to follow Him closely, each step we take, each day we live.

Day by day, it means to follow the teachings of His words in Scripture.

It means to be obedient to His Holy Spirit who lives in our hearts.
Piensa estar obediente a Su espíritu santo quien vive en nuestros corazones.
This is the rule by which the Christian must live.>
