Psalm 110:3 (KJV) — 3 Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: thou hast the dew of thy youth.
Luke 4:18–21 (NKJV) — 18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; 19 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.” 20 Then He closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him. 21 And He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”
Acts 19:20 “So the word of the Lord continued to increase and prevail mightily.”
2 Thessalonians 3:1 “Finally, brothers, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may speed ahead and be honoured, as happened among you,”
The anointing with oil is a physical symbol of a spiritual reality
The practice of anointing with perfumed oil was common among the Hebrews.
The use of oil was for anointing things or persons in consecrating them to God
Therefore you can anoint your homes, cars, property etc
Exodus 30:26 “With it you shall anoint the tent of meeting and the ark of the testimony,”
The act of anointing was used to appoint Kings and priests and today it it used to install Pastors, Ministers, Deacons etc
Anointing a king was equivalent to crowning him (1 Sam. 16:13; 2 Sam. 2:4, etc.).
The act of anointing usually occurred to set 1) a person or thing apart as holy and dedicated to the Lord, or 2) to confer authority on a person. What follows are eight examples of anointing.
Anointing was also an act of hospitality (Luke 7:38, 46). It was the custom of the Jews in like manner to anoint themselves with oil, as a means of refreshing or invigorating their bodies
Oil is used also for healing purposes. It was applied to the sick, and also to wounds (Mark 6:13; James 5:14).
Jesus Christ Himself is called the “Anointed” or Messiah because he was anointed with the Holy Ghost (Isaiah 61:1)
Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ with anointed with the Holy Spirit. Ps 45:7; Isa 61:1; Lu 4:18.
We as believers of Jesus Christ are also anointed with the Holy Spirit. 1 Jo 2:27.
Jesus Christ is our “oil of gladness” (Ps. 45:7; Heb. 1:9).
of Christians: 2 Co 1:21–22; 1 Jo 2:20, 27
Anointing of oil symbolises the filling and empowering of the Holy Spirit (1 Samuel 16:13; Zechariah 4:1-6; Matthew 25:1-13; Acts 1:8; Galatians 5:16; Ephesians 5:17-18)
for physical grooming: De 28:40; Ru 3:3; 2 Sa 14:2; Ps 23:5; 92:10; Ec 9:8; Am 6:6; Mt 6:17
for physical healing: Is 1:6; Mk 6:13; Lu 10:34; Jam 5:14–16; Re 3:18
Jesus was “anointed” with the Holy Spirit (Luke 4:18; Acts 4:24-27: 10:38)
God anointed believers with the Holy Spirit (2 Corinthians 1:21-22; 1 John 2:20, 27)
1 Corinthians 12:13 tells us that Christians are baptized into the body of Christ by the Holy Spirit.
Ephesians 1:13 tells us that Christians are sealed with the Holy Spirit.
Romans 8:11; 1 Corinthians 3:16 and Galatians 5:25 teach us that the Holy Spirit dwells within each Christian.
But it is 2 Corinthians 1:21-22 that refers to all of these blessings as the anointing of the Spirit.
Anointing with oil also symbolizes the healing work of the Holy Spirit (Mark 6:13; James 5:14; Revelation 3:18)
Is anyone among you sick? Then he must call for the elders of the church and they are to pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord . . . James 5:14 (NASB)
Anointing with oil can also symbolize the teaching work of the Spirit
1 John 2:27 “But the anointing that you received from him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone should teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about everything, and is true, and is no lie—just as it has taught you, abide in him.”
Protection in Spiritual Warfare.
Burden removing yoke destroying
The Bible defines the anointing as “God on flesh doing those things that flesh cannot do.” In other words, it’s God doing through people like us what we couldn’t do on our own (2 Corinthians 4:7).
Isaiah 10:27 “And in that day his burden will depart from your shoulder, and his yoke from your neck; and the yoke will be broken because of the fat.””
The word destroyed means "absolutely crushed, corrupted beyond use, no good for the devil’s use anymore." At the beginning of His ministry, Jesus stood in the synagogue one Sabbath and read this prophecy from the book of Isaiah:
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord.... And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears” (Luke 4:18-19, 21).
Jesus had the yoke-destroying, burden-removing power of Almighty God all over Him, and that’s what He preached and demonstrated during His ministry.
And the anointing didn’t end with Jesus. After He was crucified and right before He ascended into heaven, Jesus told His followers to wait in Jerusalem until they were baptised in the Holy Spirit and received “power after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you” (Acts 1:4-5, 8).
If you are “in Christ,” there is an anointing for everything you are called to do, no matter how small or how great the task. That’s why the Apostle Paul could say, “I can do all things through Christ (the Anointed and His Anointing) which strengtheneth me” (Philippians 4:13).
Zechariah 4:6–7 (NKJV) — 6 So he answered and said to me: “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ Says the Lord of hosts. 7 ‘Who are you, O great mountain? Before Zerubbabel you shall become a plain! And he shall bring forth the capstone With shouts of “Grace, grace to it!” ’ ”
