This week we read Parasha Noach, Genesis 6:9-11:32. It begins with the Lord saying that Noah was the only righteous and blameless man among his generation and that all flesh had become corrupt upon the earth. He then instructs Noah to build an ark of gopher wood that he, his wife, and their sons and their wives would board as remnants of mankind along with remnants of all animals. In chapter 7 we see a little further discussion of the remnant of the animals on the earth which would come on board, seven of every clean and two of every unclean animal. Then, in Noah’s 600th year the flood waters begin. The Lord sealed up the ark so that no one else could get on and the waters couldn’t breach the boat, and all flesh on the earth aside from Noah’s family perished in the flood.
In chapter 8 we read of Adonai remember Noah and the waters of the flood beginning to recede. Then we see Noah, after coming out of the ark, builds an altar and offers sacrifices to Adonai. This is followed by the Lord making covenant with Noah. In chapter 9 the Lord blesses and further lays out the covenant, gives the rainbow as a sign of the covenant and instructs Noah and his family to be fruitful and multiply. The remainder of Genesis 9 through Genesis 10 we read of the development of the 70 nations from Noah and his offspring.
In the beginning of chapter 11 we read of the Tower of Babel and the confounding of the languages of mankind. The latter part of chapter 11 is the generations from Noah to Abram. In this we go from the development of the 70 nations to the foundations of the nation of Israel through whom the entire world would be blessed.

Now the entire earth had the same language with the same vocabulary.
When they traveled eastward, they found a valley-plain in the land of Shinar and settled there.
They said to one another, “Come! Let’s make bricks and bake them until they’re hard.” So they used bricks for stone, and tar for mortar.
Then they said, “Come! Let’s build ourselves a city, with a tower whose top reaches into heaven. So let’s make a name for ourselves, or else we will be scattered over the face of the whole land.”
Then Adonai came down to see the city and the tower that the sons of man had built.
Adonai said, “Look, the people are one and all of them have the same language. So this is what they have begun to do. Now, nothing they plan to do will be impossible.
Come! Let Us go down and confuse their language there, so that they will not understand each other’s language.”
So Adonai scattered them from there over the face of the entire land, and they stopped building the city.
This is why it is named Babel, because Adonai confused the languages of the entire world there, and from there Adonai scattered them over the face of the entire world.

Now on the seventh day they rose early, at dawn, and marched around the city in the same way seven times. Only on that day did they march around the city seven times.
Then on the seventh time, when the kohanim blew the shofarot, Joshua ordered the people, “Shout! For Adonai has given you the city!
But the city will be under the ban of destruction—it and all that is in it belong to Adonai. Only Rahab the harlot will live, she and all who are with her in the house, because she hid the scouts that we sent.
But you, just keep yourselves from the things under the ban. Otherwise you would make yourselves accursed by taking of the things under the ban, and so you would make the camp of Israel accursed and bring trouble on it.
All the silver and gold and vessels of bronze and iron are holy to Adonai, and must go into the treasury of Adonai.”
So when the shofarot blew, the people shouted. When the people heard the sound of the shofar, the people shouted a loud shout—and the wall fell down flat! So the people went up into the city, everyone straight ahead, and they captured the city.
They utterly destroyed everything in the city—man and woman, young and old, ox, sheep and donkey—with the edge of the sword.

Then in the midst of the congregation, the Ruach Adonai came upon Jahaziel son of Zechariah, son of Benaiah, son of Jeiel, son of Mattaniah the Levite, of the sons of Asaph,
and he said: “Listen all Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem and King Jehoshaphat. Thus Adonai says to you, ‘Do not be afraid or be dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s.
Tomorrow go down against them as they come up the ascent of Ziz. You will find them at the end of the valley in front of the wilderness of Jeruel.
You will not fight in this battle. Take your positions, stand and see the salvation of Adonai with you, O Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid or be dismayed. Tomorrow go out to face them, for Adonai is with you.’ ”
Jehoshaphat bowed down with his face to the ground and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell down before Adonai to worship Adonai.
Levites, from the sons of Kohath and the sons of Korah, stood up to praise Adonai, the God of Israel, with a very loud voice.
Early in the morning they arose and went out into the wilderness of Tekoa. As they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, “Listen to me, O Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem! Believe in Adonai your God and you will be confirmed. Trust in His prophets and you will succeed.”
After consulting with the people, he appointed singers to Adonai praising the splendor of His holiness, as they went out before the army saying, “Praise Adonai, for His mercy endures forever.”
As they began singing and praising, Adonai set ambushes against the children of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir who had come against Judah, and they were defeated.
For the Ammonites and Moabites rose up against the inhabitants of Mount Seir to exterminate and annihilate them. When they had exterminated the inhabitants of Seir, they helped to destroy one another.

Principle: Unity can be a blessing or a curse, but when we are in unity in the Ruach HaKodesh nothing G-d puts before us is impossible.
Parasha Noach
A Song of Ascents. Of David. Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brothers to dwell together in unity!
It is like the precious oil upon the head, coming down upon the beard —Aaron’s beard— coming down on the collar of his robes.
It is like the dew of Hermon, coming down upon the mountains of Zion. For there Adonai commanded the blessing —life forevermore!
Parasha Noach
When the day of Shavuot had come, they were all together in one place.
Suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.
And tongues like fire spreading out appeared to them and settled on each one of them.
They were all filled with the Ruach ha-Kodesh and began to speak in other tongues as the Ruach enabled them to speak out.

Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the rest of the emissaries, “Fellow brethren, what shall we do?”
Peter said to them, “Repent, and let each of you be immersed in the name of Messiah Yeshua for the removal of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Ruach ha-Kodesh.
For the promise is for you and your children, and for all who are far away—as many as Adonai our God calls to Himself.”
With many other words he warned them and kept urging them, saying, “Save yourselves from this twisted generation!”
So those who received his message were immersed, and that day about three thousand souls were added.

Parasha Noach
Now there are various kinds of gifts, but the same Ruach.
There are various kinds of service, but the same Lord.
There are various kinds of working, but the same God who works all things in all people.
But to each person is given the manifestation of the Ruach for the benefit of all.
For to one is given through the Ruach a word of wisdom, to another a word of knowledge according to the same Ruach,
to another faith by the same Ruach, to another gifts of healings by the one Ruach,
to another workings of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.
But one and the same Ruach activates all these things, distributing to each person individually as He wills.
For just as the body is one and has many parts, and all the parts of the body—though many—are one body, so also is Messiah.
For in one Ruach we were all immersed into one body—whether Jewish or Greek, slave or free—and all were made to drink of one Ruach.
Parasha Noach
Therefore I, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you were called—
with complete humility and gentleness, with patience, putting up with one another in love,
making every effort to keep the unity of the Ruach in the bond of shalom.
There is one body and one Ruach, just as you also were called in one hope of your calling;
one Lord, one faith, one immersion;
one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.
