Discussion Questions
Do you consider yourself a competitive person? If so, in what sports do you like to compete? In our text, Paul was competitive in seeking to win souls for Christ. What did Paul mean by saying that he was free from all men? Why was Paul willing to make himself a servant to all men? What did Paul mean by saying, “I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means save some?”
What different groups of people did Paul specifically say he wanted to win to Christ? In what ways do you think Paul sacrificed to win these different groups of people to Christ? In what ways is this an example for us to follow today?
How did Paul compare the Christian life to a race? What kind of crown should a Christian strive for? What role does personal discipline or self-control play in winning a race? What role does spiritual discipline play in the Christian life?
What are some of the important spiritual disciplines necessary for Christian growth and living? What spiritual disciplines come the easiest for you? What spiritual disciplines are the most difficult for you?
What does it mean to run the spiritual race aimlessly? Why do you think many believers today live without a sense of purpose in their spiritual lives? Does God have a purpose for every life?
What does it mean to become spiritually disqualified? How can Christians disqualify themselves from becoming all that God wants them to be?
As a result of this study, what personal spiritual disciplines do you need to improve on in your life? What will you do to accomplish this?
