The Lamb & the Seals

INTRO:

Quick recap of chapter 5 (no one one could open the scroll, what the scroll means, John weeps, the lamb is worthy and takes the scroll, and heaven breaks out in worship of God on the throne and the lamb.

In this chapter we see Jesus open the first 6 seals

In chapter 7 there is a pause in opening seals we’ll pick it up again in chapter 8.

Revelation 6:1–17 NLT

1 As I watched, the Lamb broke the first of the seven seals on the scroll. Then I heard one of the four living beings say with a voice like thunder, “Come!” 2 I looked up and saw a white horse standing there. Its rider carried a bow, and a crown was placed on his head. He rode out to win many battles and gain the victory. 3 When the Lamb broke the second seal, I heard the second living being say, “Come!” 4 Then another horse appeared, a red one. Its rider was given a mighty sword and the authority to take peace from the earth. And there was war and slaughter everywhere. 5 When the Lamb broke the third seal, I heard the third living being say, “Come!” I looked up and saw a black horse, and its rider was holding a pair of scales in his hand. 6 And I heard a voice from among the four living beings say, “A loaf of wheat bread or three loaves of barley will cost a day’s pay. And don’t waste the olive oil and wine.” 7 When the Lamb broke the fourth seal, I heard the fourth living being say, “Come!” 8 I looked up and saw a horse whose color was pale green. Its rider was named Death, and his companion was the Grave. These two were given authority over one-fourth of the earth, to kill with the sword and famine and disease and wild animals. 9 When the Lamb broke the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of all who had been martyred for the word of God and for being faithful in their testimony. 10 They shouted to the Lord and said, “O Sovereign Lord, holy and true, how long before you judge the people who belong to this world and avenge our blood for what they have done to us?” 11 Then a white robe was given to each of them. And they were told to rest a little longer until the full number of their brothers and sisters—their fellow servants of Jesus who were to be martyred—had joined them. 12 I watched as the Lamb broke the sixth seal, and there was a great earthquake. The sun became as dark as black cloth, and the moon became as red as blood. 13 Then the stars of the sky fell to the earth like green figs falling from a tree shaken by a strong wind. 14 The sky was rolled up like a scroll, and all of the mountains and islands were moved from their places. 15 Then everyone—the kings of the earth, the rulers, the generals, the wealthy, the powerful, and every slave and free person—all hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains. 16 And they cried to the mountains and the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of the one who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb. 17 For the great day of their wrath has come, and who is able to survive?”

Levanté la vista y vi un caballo negro, y el jinete llevaba una balanza en la mano. 6 Y oí que una voz que salió de entre los cuatro seres vivientes decía: «Un pan de trigo o tres panes de cebada costarán el salario de un día. Y no desperdicies el aceite de oliva y el vino». 7 Cuando el Cordero rompió el cuarto sello, oí que el cuarto ser viviente decía: «¡Ven!». 8 Levanté la vista y vi un caballo de color verde pálido. El jinete se llamaba Muerte y su compañero era la Tumba. A estos dos se les dio autoridad sobre una cuarta parte de la tierra, para matar con espada, con hambre y con enfermedad y con animales salvajes. 9 Cuando el Cordero rompió el quinto sello, vi debajo del altar las almas de todos los que habían muerto como mártires por causa de la palabra de Dios y por haber sido fieles en su testimonio. 10 Ellos clamaban al Señor y decían: «Oh, Soberano Señor, santo y verdadero, ¿cuánto tiempo hasta que juzgues a la gente de este mundo y tomes venganza de nuestra sangre por lo que nos han hecho?». 11 Entonces a cada uno de ellos se le dio una túnica blanca, y se les dijo que descansaran un poco más hasta que se completara el número de sus hermanos, los consiervos de Jesús que se unirían a ellos después de morir como mártires. 12 Mientras yo miraba, el Cordero rompió el sexto sello, y hubo un gran terremoto. El sol se volvió tan oscuro como tela negra, y la luna se volvió tan roja como la sangre. 13 Entonces las estrellas del cielo cayeron sobre la tierra como los higos verdes que caen de un árbol cuando es sacudido por el fuerte viento. 14 El cielo fue enrollado como un pergamino, y todas las montañas y las islas fueron movidas de su lugar. 15 Entonces todo el mundo —los reyes de la tierra, los gobernantes, los generales, los ricos, los poderosos, todo esclavo y hombre libre— se escondió en las cuevas y entre las rocas de las montañas. 16 Y gritaban a las montañas y a las rocas: «Caigan sobre nosotros y escóndannos del rostro de aquél que se sienta en el trono, y de la ira del Cordero; 17 porque ha llegado el gran día de su ira, ¿y quién podrá sobrevivir?».

First seal is broken / White horse.

Living beings = Cherubim that are before the throne

Revelation 4:6 “...In the center and around the throne were four living beings, each covered with eyes, front and back.”

Who would you guess this rider is?

Reminiscent of the description of Christ.

Revelation 19:11–16 “11 Then I saw heaven opened, and a white horse was standing there. Its rider was named Faithful and True, for he judges fairly and wages a righteous war. 12 His eyes were like flames of fire, and on his head were many crowns. A name was written on him that no one understood except himself. 13 He wore a robe dipped in blood, and his title was the Word of God. 14 The armies of heaven, dressed in the finest of pure white linen, followed him on white horses. 15 From his mouth came a sharp sword to strike down the nations. He will rule them with an iron rod. He will release the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty, like juice flowing from a winepress. 16 On his robe at his thigh was written this title: King of all kings and Lord of all lords.”

Revelation 19:11–16 “11 Entonces vi el cielo abierto, y había allí un caballo blanco. Su jinete se llamaba Fiel y Verdadero, porque juzga con rectitud y hace una guerra justa. 12 Sus ojos eran como llamas de fuego, y llevaba muchas coronas en la cabeza. Is actually the antichrist = against Christ & in place of Christ

Similarities: white horse / wage war / both have crowns

Differences: Crown was given to antichrist / Christ just has them already

Wins battles gains victories: Will rule the world for 7 years

Sidenote:

The Shiite (chiita) Muslims are still waiting for their messiah. The 12th Imam (spiritual leader) named “Muhammad al Mahdi”

Mahdi’s return will be preceded by a number of global events during three years. (after 3 years the real Mahdi will reveal himself to the world)

He’ll rule all the world for 7 years

will bring peace (for a time).

Jesus will accept his leadership (uniting 2 major religions of the world) towards one world religion.

The U.S. population is approx. 300 million.

Means killing entire U.S. population (7-1/2) times over.

Killing by weapons, famine, disease (plague NIV), and wild animals!

The wild animals are gonna start killing people!!!

6th seal / great earthquake (global) / sounds a lot like a nuclear Holocaust.

We don’t know for sure what is means. But the nuclear scenario seems to fit pretty well.

V.15 - V.17

Remember all the bunkers and things that I told you the billionaires are building to survive the end of the world?

It will do them no good because you can't hide from the wrath of God and they will know and confess that.

The safest place to be is trusting. in Jesus.
