Ancestry I.D.

You have a dual genetic identity.

You have a natural genetic identity and a spiritual genetic identity.

Humans Are All More Closely Related Than We Commonly Think | Scientific American
“Humanity’s most recent common ancestor and so-called genetic isopoint illustrate the surprising connections among our family trees
Go back a bit further, and you reach a date when our family trees share not just one ancestor in common but every ancestor in common. At this date, called the genetic isopoint, the family trees of any two people on the earth now, no matter how distantly related they seem, trace back to the same set of individuals. “If you were alive at the genetic isopoint, then you are the ancestor of either everyone alive today or no one alive today,” Rutherford says. Humans left Africa and began dispersing throughout the world at least 120,000 years ago, but the genetic isopoint occurred much more recently—somewhere between 5300 and 2200 B.C.,according to Rohde’s calculations.”
A genetic isopoint -
Genesis 1:27–28 NKJV
27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. 28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

1) Your natural genetic identity is inclined toward sin.

2) You have been brought into a new family with a new genetic inheritance!

3) The Spiritual DNA of the Father has been infused into you!

Today: Becoming more like Dad.

Ephesians 5:1 CSB
1 Therefore, be imitators of God, as dearly loved children,
The Apostles understood the idea of Spiritual Inheritance.
John wrote:
1 John 2:1 NKJV
1 My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.
Paul showed us this example of Spiritual Fatherhood when he wrote:
1 Corinthians 4:15 NKJV
15 For though you might have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet you do not have many fathers; for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel.
1 Corinthians 4:15 AMP
15 After all, though you should have ten thousand teachers (guides to direct you) in Christ, yet you do not have many fathers. For I became your father in Christ Jesus through the glad tidings (the Gospel).
Later he would say in this same letter to his Corinthian children in the faith:
1 Corinthians 11:1 NKJV
1 Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ.
To his spiritual children in Philippi he would write:
Philippians 4:9 NKJV
9 The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.
He would open his letter to Timothy this way:
1 Timothy 1:1–2 NKJV
1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ, by the commandment of God our Savior and the Lord Jesus Christ, our hope, 2 To Timothy, a true son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord.
To Timothy, he would also write that a Spiritual inheritance was taught to him by his natural family and then imparted to him through the laying on of Paul’s hands:
2 Timothy 1:5–7 NKJV
5 when I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is in you also. 6 Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. 7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
1 Timothy 6:12 NKJV
12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
Back to our theme verse for today:
Ephesians 5:1 CSB
1 Therefore, be imitators of God, as dearly loved children,

Why is it easier to imitate our natural inheritance, than to imitate our Spiritual inheritance?

Let’s look at the verse again.
Ephesians 5:1 (AMP)
1 THEREFORE BE imitators of God [copy Him and follow His example], as well-beloved children [imitate their father].

as dear children—Greek, “as children beloved”; to which Eph 5:2 refers, “As Christ also loved us” (1 Jn 4:19). “We are sons of men, when we do ill; sons of God, when we do well” [AUGUSTINE, on Psalm 52]; (compare Mt 5:44, 45, 48). Sonship infers an absolute necessity of imitation, it being vain to assume the title of son without any similitude of the Father [PEARSON].

“We are sons of men, when we do ill; sons of God, when we do well” - St. Augustine

We imitate the one to whom we believe we belong.

“Sonship infers an absolute necessity of imitation, it being vain to assume the title of son without any similitude of the Father.” - Pearson

What you call the son or daughter is the surname. The name of the family
sur·name
[ˈsərˌnām]
noun
a hereditary name common to all members of a family, as distinct from a given name:
archaic
a name, title, or epithet added to a person's name, especially one indicating their birthplace or a particular quality or achievement:
The surname Burkhardt: German origin - Burk is German for "Strong", and hardt is the "heart of a castle".
Matthew 16:16–18 NKJV
16 Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” 17 Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. 18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.

Simon Bar-Jonah = Son of Jonah

“But I also say to you that you are Peter,”

“When Peter made his famous confession, Jesus responded by saying:
“And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. (NIV Mathew 16:18)
“Looking up the original Greek I see that Jesus is referring to two types of rocks and one is related to the other, but they are not the same.
“Peter = Πέτρος, Pétros (a masculine noun) – properly, a stone (pebble), such as a small rock found along a pathway.
“Rock = pétra (a feminine noun) – "a mass of connected rock”
1 Peter 2:5 NKJV
5 you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
1 Corinthians 6:19–20 NKJV
19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? 20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.

Your surname reflects your natural inheritance, but God gives us a new name reflecting a new spiritual identity.

Peter you are part of a new family - a new identity - a dwelling place for God in the earth
Jeremiah 15:16 NKJV
16 Your words were found, and I ate them, And Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart; For I am called by Your name, O Lord God of hosts.

What is the characteristic of God that we are to imitate?

Ephesians 5:1–2 NKJV
1 Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. 2 And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.
Matthew 5:44 NKJV
44 But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you,
Matthew 5:45–46 NKJV
45 that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. 46 For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same?
Matthew 5:47 NKJV
47 And if you greet your brethren only, what do you do more than others? Do not even the tax collectors do so?
Matthew 5:48 NKJV
48 Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.

It becomes natural to walk in the nature of the Father when we truly identify as His children.

Isaiah 43:1–11 NKJV
1 But now, thus says the Lord, who created you, O Jacob, And He who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are Mine. 2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you. 3 For I am the Lord your God, The Holy One of Israel, your Savior; I gave Egypt for your ransom, Ethiopia and Seba in your place. 4 Since you were precious in My sight, You have been honored, And I have loved you; Therefore I will give men for you, And people for your life. 5 Fear not, for I am with you; I will bring your descendants from the east, And gather you from the west; 6 I will say to the north, ‘Give them up!’ And to the south, ‘Do not keep them back!’ Bring My sons from afar, And My daughters from the ends of the earth— 7 Everyone who is called by My name, Whom I have created for My glory; I have formed him, yes, I have made him.” 8 Bring out the blind people who have eyes, And the deaf who have ears. 9 Let all the nations be gathered together, And let the people be assembled. Who among them can declare this, And show us former things? Let them bring out their witnesses, that they may be justified; Or let them hear and say, “It is truth.” 10 “You are My witnesses,” says the Lord, “And My servant whom I have chosen, That you may know and believe Me, And understand that I am He. Before Me there was no God formed, Nor shall there be after Me. 11 I, even I, am the Lord, And besides Me there is no savior.
