Reading Gods word is our highest spiritual experience.
Because of my testimony, I am often asked to minister to people with deep spiritual problems. I think people are surprised when I talk about the power of reading Gods word. The truth is, there is power in Gods word, power to set free and power to deliver.
The very first place we should go to encounter God is His word. For older believers it should be the very place where we remain.
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
There must be a Spirit in me, as there is a Spirit in the Scripture, before I can see anything.…
The breath of the Spirit in us is suitable to the Spirit’s breathing in the Scriptures; the same Spirit doth not breathe contrary motions.…
As the spirits in the arteries quicken the blood in the veins, so the Spirit of God goes along with the Word, and makes it work. Richard Sibbes.
The mistake that people make is in looking for high spiritual experience outside of scriptures, making experience their authority and guide.
The mistake people make with scripture is a common one. They think that scripture becomes the word of God, rather than already being the Word of God. So in other words, unless there is some kind of mystical experience imposed on the scriptures , it is not to them the word of God.
This meant for Barth that rather than saying that the Bible is the Word of God, one should rather say that it becomes the Word of God, when God condescends sovereignly and freely to reveal himself to people through the Bible.
God has given us words, when it comes to words, this is how God has chosen to communicate with us. Words are thoughts.
Your mind is the agent through whom words are received or rejected.
In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.
In all suicide, there is always a demonic thumb on the scale that is hidden. In fact satanic spirits would rather remain hidden, making you think its your thoughts and your thoughts alone thats driving you to this decision.
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.
Its been my observation over the years, if we can point out the demonic source of these thoughts, people are less inclined to perform the deed.
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
I beg of you that when I am present I may not have to show boldness with such confidence as I count on showing against some who suspect us of walking according to the flesh. For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, being ready to punish every disobedience, when your obedience is complete.
As a christian your mind belongs to God, the spiritual adversary has no rights to it. At times in our lives, God will permit us to go through spiritual warfare. It is more like psychological warfare. Its in the mind where this war is waged.
In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one;
There was a time in my life I was going through a terrible time in my early days. the spiritual had put a thought in my head and i believed it. Because I believed it was ruining my life. I was in terrible . Till one day it dawned on me, the enemy couldnt do what he said he was going to do. in that moment my mind was released.
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
I would say to those who may be battling mental illness. Don’t give up. Its time to be in Gods word. Gods words are Gods thoughts and when you start putting Gods word in your mind, satan will have no place in your mind anymore.
