Today our main text will be found in …this text is often viewed from verse 37 when Jesus says that the “Workers are Few” - we will address that but I believe that the main purpose that inspires those remarks is found in verse 36 when it says that Jesus “had compassion on them.”
This is what motivated Christ to then make such a statement.
TEXT - - 35 Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness.
36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.
37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.
38 Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”

Köster comments about the verb to have compassion by saying that , “outside the original parables of Jesus there is no instance of the word being used of men.
It is always used to describe the attitude of Jesus and it characterizes the divine nature of His acts.”

Modern theology glorifies the power of God more than magnifying his compassion...
But the Bible reverses this, and instead, magnifies His great willingness to use His power more of than simply be glorified by power itself.
No where in the Bible states that "God is Power", but it does say that, "God is love."
It’s not faith in the power of God that guarantees His blessings, but faith in His love and in His willingness to do so.

Then Matthew takes the time to name each Disciple…Why?
Because regardless of who they were, or how their past defined them, or even in spite of how some betrayed him, Christ still believed in them!
And Christ believes in you!
