Who Was Mary Magdalene?

Most likely single due to being referred to in association with a place rather than a person.
Not Married to Jesus as some have said due to the same reason as above. Wouldn’t she be introduced as Mary the wife Jesus. I think is she was His wife an introduction referencing Him rather than where she was from would be the way she was introduced.
Possibly a widow
This comes from the idea that the women provided for Jesus and the other disciples out of their means.
They had means and had control over how they were distributed as would not as easily be the case
Tied to reputation as a prostitute in 1591 when Pope Gregory the Great regarded her and the unnamed sinner of chapter 7 as the same person.
Thoughts against this:
It is assumed that the unnamed sinner was a prostitute and however likely, cannot be stated with 100% certainty.
Pope Gregory may have been motivated by strengthening the perception of forgiveness… was that really needed?
Who Was Mary Magdalene?
Pope Gregory is also accused of trying to discredit the role of women in ministry. If he could smear the name of one of the closes woman followers of Jesus then the women of his era would have one less example to support their rising role in Christian ministry.
Disregarding this view elevates the perception of her, particularly as a model for men and women to follow as an example of devotion to Jesus.

NIV84A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying out, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is suffering terribly from demon-possession.” Jesus did not answer a word. So his disciples came to him and urged him, “Send her away, for she keeps crying out after us.” He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel.” The woman came and knelt before him. “Lord, help me!” she said. He replied, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to their dogs.” “Yes, Lord,” she said, “but even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters’ table.” Then Jesus answered, “Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted.” And her daughter was healed from that very hour.

He used words of rebuke to drive out demons

NIV84Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of the boy, and he was healed from that moment.

Devotion to Jesus Christ

Devotion means steadfast or single minded in purpose or desire. To want something and go after it, so to speak.

In 2008 Sanya Richards-Ross competed in the 400 Meter in Beijing. She started the race strong and built a substantial lead before locking up on the home stretch. She finished third for the Bronze. In 2012 she competed and won the gold medal in the 400 Meter in London with a time of 49.55 seconds. Four years, Sanya Richards-Ross waited. Four years she waited with the hunger pangs of unfinished business and the sense of an uncompleted mission. When they introduced her before the 400 meters in London, she blew a kiss to the camera, went out and got the gold medal she had worked tirelessly for since Beijing.
Just as Sanya Richards-Ross was devoted to her pursuit of Olympic Gold... the early Christians modeled devotion to Christ and the process of becoming Christian. They were intentional and disciplined about the process of becoming devoted followers of Jesus Christ.

Our Response:

We should know the truth that Jesus is more powerful than any demonic possession or oppression that we may face.
We should live in a manner that reflects this power.
We should embrace forgiveness.
We should live like we have a purpose.
We should be unrelentingly devoted to Jesus.

Bottom Line:

what does demon possession mean?
Each of us may take something different away from this but one thing is true...
What we see as broken, Jesus sees as mended.

The Spirit of God

NIV84But if I drive out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.

Faith

NIV84Then the disciples came to Jesus in private and asked, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?” He replied, “Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

Prayer (and fasting)

NIV84After Jesus had gone indoors, his disciples asked him privately, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?” He replied, “This kind can come out only by prayer.”

The ministry of exorcism was an indication of the kingdom’s presence

NIV84But if I drive out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.

Loss of supernatural faculties

NIV84Once when we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a slave girl who had a spirit by which she predicted the future. She earned a great deal of money for her owners by fortune-telling. This girl followed Paul and the rest of us, shouting, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who are telling you the way to be saved.” She kept this up for many days. Finally Paul became so troubled that he turned around and said to the spirit, “In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!” At that moment the spirit left her. When the owners of the slave girl realized that their hope of making money was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace to face the authorities.

NIV84“When an evil spirit comes out of a man, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order. Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that man is worse than the first. That is how it will be with this wicked generation.”

It was never supposed to be this way

Look in the mirror, but you find someone
It was never supposed to be this way

Look in the mirror, but you find someone you never thought you'd be
You never thought you’d be
I see "healing beyond belief."
Look in the mirror, but you find someone you never thought you'd be
Oh, but I can still recognize
When you see "too far gone",
Oh, but I can still recognize
Oh, but I can still recognize
Oh, but I can still recognize
The one I love in your tear stained eyes
I see "one step away from home."
The one I love in your tear stained eyes
The one I love in your tear stained eyes
The one I love in your tear stained eyes
I know you might not see it now
I know you might not see him now, so lift your eyes to me

When you see nothing but damaged goods
When you see nothing but damaged goods
When you see nothing but damaged goods

There's nothing you could ever do, to lose what grace has won
There's nothing you could ever do, to lose what grace has won
I see "one step away from home."
There's nothing you could ever do, to lose what grace has won
But I see the price I paid
When you see "nothing but damaged goods",

When you see broken beyond repair
I see "mended."

When you see too far gone
Verse 2:
When you see too far gone
I see my child, My beloved
When you see too far gone

You see your worst mistake.
The new creation you’re becoming
I see one step away from home
When you see nothing but damaged goods
You see the scars from when you fell
When you see nothing but damaged goods
When you see nothing but damaged goods
But I see the price I paid.
There's nothing you could ever do to lose what Grace has won.

I see something good in the making
I see something good in the making
But I see the stories they will tell

You see unworthy, undeserving
But I see you through eyes of mercy
The new creation you're becoming
The new creation you're becoming
