INTRODUCTION:

1. The Power of the Word of God is the topic for today.

A. This is such a deep topic which needs to be understood in today’s world.

2 Timothy 3:16–17 NKJV
16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
2 Timothy 3:16 NKJV
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,

1. Because of the depths of this topic, it will be impossible to completely explore it today in only one lesson.

2. This is why each individual Christian should study for themselves to truly understand the power of the Word of God.

2 Timothy 3:16–17 NKJV
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
2 Timothy 2:15 NKJV
15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Acts 17:11 NKJV
These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.
2 Timothy 2:15 NKJV
Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

B. Sermons as Seeds?

1. Every sermon we hear from the Word of God is a seed which needs to be watered and taken care of in order to grow.

Mark 4:13–14 NKJV
13 And He said to them, “Do you not understand this parable? How then will you understand all the parables? 14 The sower sows the word.
Mark 4.13-
Luke 8:11 NKJV
11 “Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.

2. The beauty of the Word of God is that no matter how much you study it, there is always more to learn.

Romans 11:33–35 NKJV
33 Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out! 34 “For who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has become His counselor?” 35 “Or who has first given to Him And it shall be repaid to him?”

A. The Word of God is so powerful that we can study it our entire lives and still have more to study.

B. If we want God’s Word to grow in our lives to show forth its power, we must take the seed that is planted by the preacher, Sunday school teacher, friend or family member and water and nurture it.

Acts 17:11 NKJV
11 These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.
1. If we want the power of God’s Word in our lives, we must tap into it by faith.
Romans 10:17 NKJV
17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
2. Faith comes from hearing God’s Word, which is the power of God.
Romans 1:16 NKJV
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.

C. Why is God’s Word so powerful?

Hebrews 4:12 NKJV
12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

1. Because He spoke and it was so!

2. Because in His words is the power of life and death.

BODY:

2 Timothy 3:15 NKJV
and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
2 Timothy 3:16 NKJV
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,

1. BECAUSE HE SPOKE AND IT WAS SO!

A. When God spoke, it was so.

1. When God said, “Let there be light,” there was light.

Genesis 1:3 NKJV
3 Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.
Gen 1.

2. God said, “Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters...” and it was so.

Genesis 1:6–7 NKJV
6 Then God said, “Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.” 7 Thus God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament; and it was so.

3. God said, “Let the waters under the heavens be gathered to gether into one place, and let the dry land appear,” and it was so.

Genesis 1:9 NKJV
9 Then God said, “Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear”; and it was so.

4. God said, “Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed, and the fruit tree...” and it was so.

Genesis 1:11 NKJV
11 Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth”; and it was so.

5. God said, “Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night...” and it was so.

Genesis 1:14–15 NKJV
14 Then God said, “Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years; 15 and let them be for lights in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth”; and it was so.

6. God said, “Let the waters abound with an abundance of living creatures and let birds fly above the earth....” So God created great sea creatures and every living thing that moves.

Genesis 1:20–21 NKJV
20 Then God said, “Let the waters abound with an abundance of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the face of the firmament of the heavens.” 21 So God created great sea creatures and every living thing that moves, with which the waters abounded, according to their kind, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
Gen 1

1. This is the same as saying, “it was so.”

7. God said, “Let the earth bring forth the living creature according to its kind:...” and it was so.

Genesis 1:24 NKJV
24 Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth the living creature according to its kind: cattle and creeping thing and beast of the earth, each according to its kind”; and it was so.

8. God said, “Let us make man in Our image...” and it was so.

Genesis 1:26–30 NKJV
26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. 28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” 29 And God said, “See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food. 30 Also, to every beast of the earth, to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, in which there is life, I have given every green herb for food”; and it was so.
Gen 1.26-

B. Not once during the creation did God speak and it fail to happen.

1. When God speaks, it is so, because God cannot lie.

Numbers 23:19 NKJV
19 “God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?
Numbers 23.19

A. When God said, “Let there be light,” if it would not have happened, it would have been a lie.

1. God claimed by the statement that His Word had the power to create light; if it would not have happened, it would have been a lie.

2. But it did happen—light was created by the power of His Word, because His Word is truth and He cannot lie.

John 17:17 NKJV
17 Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.

C. The power of the Word of God is—it always comes to pass.

1 Kings 8:56 NKJV
56 “Blessed be the Lord, who has given rest to His people Israel, according to all that He promised. There has not failed one word of all His good promise, which He promised through His servant Moses.
1 Kings

1. God told Adam and Eve that if they ate of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, they would die.

Genesis 2:16–17 NKJV
16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; 17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”
Genesis 3:3 NKJV
3 but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’ ”
Gen 3.

A. They both partook of the tree.

Genesis 3:6 NKJV
6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.

B. By eating of the tree, they broke God’s law and sinned.

1 John 3:4 NKJV
4 Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness.
1 John 3:4 NIV
4 Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness.

C. Thus, they died, being separated from God.

Isaiah 59:1–2 NKJV
1 Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, That it cannot save; Nor His ear heavy, That it cannot hear. 2 But your iniquities have separated you from your God; And your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear.
Genesis 3:17 NKJV
17 Then to Adam He said, “Because you have heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of it’: “Cursed is the ground for your sake; In toil you shall eat of it All the days of your life.
1. Thus, God spoke and His Word was so!

2. God prophesied through Isaiah that King Cyrus would facilitate the return to Jerusalem and the rebuilding of the wall many years before Cyrus would become king.

Isaiah 44:28–45:1 NKJV
28 Who says of Cyrus, ‘He is My shepherd, And he shall perform all My pleasure, Saying to Jerusalem, “You shall be built,” And to the temple, “Your foundation shall be laid.” ’ 1 “Thus says the Lord to His anointed, To Cyrus, whose right hand I have held— To subdue nations before him And loose the armor of kings, To open before him the double doors, So that the gates will not be shut:
Isa 44

A. In this becomes a reality many years after it was prophesied.

2 Chronicles 36:22–23 NKJV
22 Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremiah might be fulfilled, the Lord stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, so that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and also put it in writing, saying, 23 Thus says Cyrus king of Persia: All the kingdoms of the earth the Lord God of heaven has given me. And He has commanded me to build Him a house at Jerusalem which is in Judah. Who is among you of all His people? May the Lord his God be with him, and let him go up!
1. Thus, God spoke and His Word was so!

3. God told Abraham that he would be the father of many nations…and kings shall come from him.

Genesis 17:5–6 NKJV
5 No longer shall your name be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham; for I have made you a father of many nations. 6 I will make you exceedingly fruitful; and I will make nations of you, and kings shall come from you.

A. Abraham’s grandchild, Jacob, and great-grandchildren (Jacob’s children) and their families equalled 70 people when they entered Egypt.

Exodus 1:1–6 NKJV
1 Now these are the names of the children of Israel who came to Egypt; each man and his household came with Jacob: 2 Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah; 3 Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin; 4 Dan, Naphtali, Gad, and Asher. 5 All those who were descendants of Jacob were seventy persons (for Joseph was in Egypt already). 6 And Joseph died, all his brothers, and all that generation.
Ex 1.1-

B. While they were in Egypt, they grew and increased in number abundantly.

Exodus 1:7 NKJV
7 But the children of Israel were fruitful and increased abundantly, multiplied and grew exceedingly mighty; and the land was filled with them.
Ex 1.7

C. When the seventy left Egypt, that seventy had turned into six hundred thousand men, besides children.

1. If only two children and one woman were present for each of the six hundred thousand men, their number would have been 2,4000,000 (2.4 Million)

D. All of the kings of Isreal during the United and Divided Kingdoms were descendants of Abraham.

1. Saul was of the tribe of Benjamin.
2. From David on, all the kings of Judah were of the tribe of Judah, including Jesus.
Hebrews 7:14 NKJV
14 For it is evident that our Lord arose from Judah, of which tribe Moses spoke nothing concerning priesthood.
3. Thus, God spoke and His Word was so!

4. God prophesied of the coming, death, and resurrection of Jesus right after the fall of man in and because He spoke, it was so.

Genesis 3:15 NKJV
15 And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.”
Revelation 13:8 NKJV
8 All who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

A. Jesus is born.

Luke 2:15–16 NKJV
15 So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, “Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.” 16 And they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger.
Lk 2.

B. Jesus dies on the cross.

Mark 15:37 NKJV
37 And Jesus cried out with a loud voice, and breathed His last.
Mark
Mark 15.
Mark 15 NKJV
1 Immediately, in the morning, the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council; and they bound Jesus, led Him away, and delivered Him to Pilate. 2 Then Pilate asked Him, “Are You the King of the Jews?” He answered and said to him, “It is as you say.” 3 And the chief priests accused Him of many things, but He answered nothing. 4 Then Pilate asked Him again, saying, “Do You answer nothing? See how many things they testify against You!” 5 But Jesus still answered nothing, so that Pilate marveled. 6 Now at the feast he was accustomed to releasing one prisoner to them, whomever they requested. 7 And there was one named Barabbas, who was chained with his fellow rebels; they had committed murder in the rebellion. 8 Then the multitude, crying aloud, began to ask him to do just as he had always done for them. 9 But Pilate answered them, saying, “Do you want me to release to you the King of the Jews?” 10 For he knew that the chief priests had handed Him over because of envy. 11 But the chief priests stirred up the crowd, so that he should rather release Barabbas to them. 12 Pilate answered and said to them again, “What then do you want me to do with Him whom you call the King of the Jews?” 13 So they cried out again, “Crucify Him!” 14 Then Pilate said to them, “Why, what evil has He done?” But they cried out all the more, “Crucify Him!” 15 So Pilate, wanting to gratify the crowd, released Barabbas to them; and he delivered Jesus, after he had scourged Him, to be crucified. 16 Then the soldiers led Him away into the hall called Praetorium, and they called together the whole garrison. 17 And they clothed Him with purple; and they twisted a crown of thorns, put it on His head, 18 and began to salute Him, “Hail, King of the Jews!” 19 Then they struck Him on the head with a reed and spat on Him; and bowing the knee, they worshiped Him. 20 And when they had mocked Him, they took the purple off Him, put His own clothes on Him, and led Him out to crucify Him. 21 Then they compelled a certain man, Simon a Cyrenian, the father of Alexander and Rufus, as he was coming out of the country and passing by, to bear His cross. 22 And they brought Him to the place Golgotha, which is translated, Place of a Skull. 23 Then they gave Him wine mingled with myrrh to drink, but He did not take it. 24 And when they crucified Him, they divided His garments, casting lots for them to determine what every man should take. 25 Now it was the third hour, and they crucified Him. 26 And the inscription of His accusation was written above: THE KING OF THE JEWS 27 With Him they also crucified two robbers, one on His right and the other on His left. 28 So the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “And He was numbered with the transgressors.” 29 And those who passed by blasphemed Him, wagging their heads and saying, “Aha! You who destroy the temple and build it in three days, 30 save Yourself, and come down from the cross!” 31 Likewise the chief priests also, mocking among themselves with the scribes, said, “He saved others; Himself He cannot save. 32 Let the Christ, the King of Israel, descend now from the cross, that we may see and believe.” Even those who were crucified with Him reviled Him. 33 Now when the sixth hour had come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour. 34 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?” which is translated, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” 35 Some of those who stood by, when they heard that, said, “Look, He is calling for Elijah!” 36 Then someone ran and filled a sponge full of sour wine, put it on a reed, and offered it to Him to drink, saying, “Let Him alone; let us see if Elijah will come to take Him down.” 37 And Jesus cried out with a loud voice, and breathed His last. 38 Then the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. 39 So when the centurion, who stood opposite Him, saw that He cried out like this and breathed His last, he said, “Truly this Man was the Son of God!” 40 There were also women looking on from afar, among whom were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James the Less and of Joses, and Salome, 41 who also followed Him and ministered to Him when He was in Galilee, and many other women who came up with Him to Jerusalem. 42 Now when evening had come, because it was the Preparation Day, that is, the day before the Sabbath, 43 Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent council member, who was himself waiting for the kingdom of God, coming and taking courage, went in to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. 44 Pilate marveled that He was already dead; and summoning the centurion, he asked him if He had been dead for some time. 45 So when he found out from the centurion, he granted the body to Joseph. 46 Then he bought fine linen, took Him down, and wrapped Him in the linen. And he laid Him in a tomb which had been hewn out of the rock, and rolled a stone against the door of the tomb. 47 And Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses observed where He was laid.

C. The resurrection of Jesus.

Luke 24:1–7 NKJV
1 Now on the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they, and certain other women with them, came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared. 2 But they found the stone rolled away from the tomb. 3 Then they went in and did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4 And it happened, as they were greatly perplexed about this, that behold, two men stood by them in shining garments. 5 Then, as they were afraid and bowed their faces to the earth, they said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? 6 He is not here, but is risen! Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee, 7 saying, ‘The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.’ ”
1. Thus, God spoke and His Word was so.

2. BECAUSE IN HIS WORD IS THE POWER OF LIFE AND DEATH.

A. God has spoken and His Word is so.

John 14:6 NKJV
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

1. Life is in Jesus, and it is so, if for no other reason than God has spoken.

John 1:1 NKJV
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2. Death is being apart from Jesus, and it is so, if for no other reason than God has spoken.

Romans 6:23 NKJV
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

A. All Scripture is given by inspiration of God.

2 Timothy 3:16–17 NKJV
16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

CONCLUSION:

2 Timothy 3:16 NKJV
16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,

1. The power of the Word of God is...

A. He Has spoken and it is so.

2. If you are not listening to God’s Word, then the power of salvation is lost to you.

Romans 1:16 NKJV
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.

A. If you have not obeyed the gospel, then you do not believe that God has spoken and it is so.

2 Thessalonians 1:6–10 NKJV
6 since it is a righteous thing with God to repay with tribulation those who trouble you, 7 and to give you who are troubled rest with us when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, 8 in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power, 10 when He comes, in that Day, to be glorified in His saints and to be admired among all those who believe, because our testimony among you was believed.
