The Bible Guide Jesus in Debate with His Jewish Critics (8:12–59)

During the Feast of Tabernacles, four huge lamps are lit in the Court of Women, one of the temple’s outer courts. There is music and dancing, with men holding flaming torches and singing songs throughout the night. Just as Jesus has said, ‘Come to me and drink,’ at the water ceremony, so he now says, ‘I am the light of the world’ (8:12) at this celebration of light.

The Bible Guide Jesus in Debate with His Jewish Critics (8:12–59)

It is an astonishing claim—that he is actually the light that gives life! He is claiming to be the spiritual equivalent of the sun.

Conclusion

The issue was that the Pharisees relied on the light the Moses had been shown. They were relying on Moses’ guidence, more than they did God.
Proverbs 3:5–6 NKJV
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.
Jeremiah 29:11 NKJV
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.
They came in the name of Moses, rather than the name of God.
A father who was coalminer took his don down the shaft into the underground pit where he worked. He said, ‘ Wait here in this lit space, as I need to go along this tunner.’ WHie the son was waiting for his father to come back, the light in the mine failed. He was in pitch darkness and screamed out for his father. Down the tunnel, he heard his father’s voice command him to start waslking twards him. The boy cied out that he could not see anything. His father said, ‘Is the light on your helmet on?’ The boy replied yes it was, but it only threw light for one step ahead, and it was deep black beyond that. His father said, ‘Well take that step.’ Of course, the boy did, and creid that he could not see any further. His father said, ‘How much light can you see now?’ the boy replied, ‘Only about a step.’ Back came the instruction, ‘Well, take that step’. There was enough light just for one step at a time and, of course, by following the soothing advice, one step after that other, he finally reached the safetu of his father’s strong arms. We would all prefer to see mich further ahead. We want the road map and to know the short cuts. But usually we only have enought light fot the next step. To get anywhere we must take that.

Jesus is the light
Was the light to Moses, the light in His time and in our time.
Jesus knows and sees that path ahead, we just need to trust in his leading now.
The light in His time
Personally:
in our every decision of life.

World:
In this world and where the world is headed. God has already won the battle, He has shown us that much light.
We are dealing with some pretty intense situations where we as Christians are considered small minded, bigots who aren’t truely loving.
What has been thrown in front of us is a Moral dilema, and not only is the devil teysting us, but there are people also watching in and waiting to see what we do and how we respond.
Jesus will lead us to salvation, as long as we trust in light of the world.
and in our time.
Trust
We
Moses was given the light for his time, however, Jesus is the light that is timeless.

Catch

We are dealing with some pretty intense situations where we as Christians are considered small minded, bigots who aren’t truely loving.
Moses was given the light for his time, however, Jesus is the light that is timeless.
Moses was given the light for his time, however, Jesus is the light that is timeless.
IN a time such as this, where issues of moral delema has been thrown in from of our eyes, people watching and judgement of God is again at the pinnacle - we need Jesus to show us how He would respond.
My challenge is that just light we wait in darkness for the sun to show up, and begin our daily activities, that we may also wait and pray for God to reveal His light to show us how we are to respond.
