During the Feast of Tabernacles, four huge lamps are lit in the Court of Women, one of the temple’s outer courts.
There is music and dancing, with men holding flaming torches and singing songs throughout the night.
Just as Jesus has said, ‘Come to me and drink,’ at the water ceremony, so he now says, ‘I am the light of the world’ (8:12) at this celebration of light.
