Biblical Parenting Part 2C
I have few points today:
We need men and women who makes deliberate moves as parents: Why?
Every moves that guarantees success in life are always strategic, calculated, and deliberate.
Abraham made a deliberate move in building a godly home for Isaac. in
Pay attention to the strategic, calculated and deliberate move of Abraham:
Abraham made him to swear: To swear an oath carries the expectation that the promised made will be kept.
“Abraham strategically commissioned his servant to faithfulness in his assignment.”
The object of the Oath is that the servant will not take a wife for Isaac from among the people of Canaan.
Specific instruction regarding the don’ts
But that you will go to my family and take a wife for my son Isaac.
Specific instruction regarding the dos.
You must take care that you do not return my child there… only, you must not return my son there… vs 6&8 - he was a mission that gave no room to compromise.
Abraham was not randomizing his move, he has a clear goal in mind…
So to build a godly home requires men and women who are deliberate: they are running with the principles of God, they are not willing to entertain shifting grounds; they are not men and women who returns to their old ways of life....
please listen to the lyrics of this song
I will never be the same again.
I can never return I've closed the door
I will walk the path I'll run the race
And I will never be the same again…
I will never be the same again.
I can never return I've closed the door, I will walk the path I'll run the race, And I will never be the same again…
on the issue of building a godly home, you can not give in to any form of compromise.
We need men and women who have clear understanding of their divine positioning and roles in the home.
What is your role as a man?
As a man, you are a nourisher, a protector, and an upholder.
How can we summarize your role as a woman?
As a woman, in Hebrew you are an “em”, which means, the bond of the family.
i can say, you are like a glue that binds everything together.
you are to nurture, protect and be a source of comfort in the home.
Parent must represent all that Jesus is to their children, because children are concrete thinkers, and the parent is the first picture of God that a child sees (i re-arranged this statement from larry and judi keefauver)
This is simply saying, we are to always demonstrate godliness in our home: we are in a way role playing Jesus in our homes.
I will give us, 5 nature of Christ that we can demonstrate in our homes before our children...
A Sinless Holy life - a life on integrity is a must.
Remember what the bible says:
1
1 Pet 1:15-
prov 20
Sacrificial Life -
you must demonstrate sacrificial living before your children.
don’t do things simply because it is convenient, be willing to go the extra mile to see that things get done… “if a man ask you to go a mile, the bible says, go two miles”
in speaking to the husband he says:
speaking to the wife the bible says:
prov 31
Jesus Obeyed and have great honour for God - his father:
john 14
john 14:
john 12 49
and the bible says:
a life of obedient to God’s commandment as a father has an outflow of blessing on your children.
Jesus lived a Purposeful life:
and the bible says of us:
psalm 139:15-16
we are a purposeful creation of God, your marriage is a purposeful institution of God, search out and discover the purpose of God for your home.
A soul winner
mat
and he said to us:
The bible says he that winneth a soul is wise… he that winneth a soul shall shine as the star...
We need men and women of proven characters:
We will read the book of proverbs and apply the passage to both parent
There are at least 4 characters in this passage that every parent must pursue: There are more than 4, but for my purpose, I will only mention 4.
Patience: it is to one’s honour to avoid strife, why? fools are quick to quarrel.
one author puts it this way “make up your mind to be patient and learn to make strategic exit whenever you find yourself loosing control, also remember to ask God to help you control your temper”
prov
Diligence: The home needs parents who are not lazy, we need men and women who are diligent in business.
the bible says
we know it takes hard work to develop any useful skill...
understanding heart and a Listening ear: a writer paraphrased to say “the thoughts in a child’s heart are like deep waters but an understanding father draws them out”. in a sense, as parents we need to spend time with our children in an informal relaxed setting, so as to be able to capture what is already in their heart, and carefully helped guide and balanced their imperfect views about life.
Daniel Switzer said “ God wants us to draw out understanding from the heart of our children” - in order words we can not just keep feeding them with instructions without allowing them to act out what has been formed in them… quick fixes without careful listening, will only lead to quick failling of their life - they will fall away quickly from the Lord because the purpose of their heart are not being channeled towards God
Faithfulness: verse 6 says a faithful person who can find? the quality of being trustworthy, reliable, dependable and thorough in performance of duty.
this is what it means to be faithful.
as parents we are to be faithful stewards before God.
finding time to attend to physical, emotional and spiritual needs of our home.
We need men and women who can distinguish between child raring and child raising.
Entrance:
Without a godly home, biblical parenting is practically impossible, because the thoughts, the characters, and the way of life of anyone who has not experienced the new birth can never agree with the pattern and the standard of God.
we began this study by
I want you to write this down:
“the moves that guarantees success in anything that we do in life, are always strategic, calculated, and deliberate.”
Therefore, we need deliberate men and women, who are ready to take the heat, bear the cost and face the odds in the pursuit of building a godly home that will serve as the bedrock of successful parenting.
Abraham:

We started looking at some points beginning from part 2B:
We were trying to answer these four questions:
Who is a parent and what does parenting entails?
How accountable are we as parents?
The role of Godly father and Godly mother in biblical parenting
We will also explore the difference between raring and raising a child
At the end of Part 2B, we were left with two unanswered questions:
The role of a godly father and a godly mother in biblical parenting and
we will explore the differences between raring a child and raising a child.
If we have time, we will discuss the subject of parental styles.
I will also approach this under two sub headings: The summarized role of a godly father and The summarized role of a godly mother
