Introduction
Context
Chapter 12
In chapter 12 we looked at the the triumphal entry of the Lord Jesus into Jerusalem on the back of a donkey.
Crowds were singing “hosanna: blessed is the King of Israel”.
But as it became clear that Jesus was not about to deliver them from their present circumstance they turned in an instant and became hostile toward him.
Chapter 13
In chapter 13 John tells us that the hour had come for Jesus to be crucified and to depart out of the world.
This is a climactic portion of Scripture.
The world has heard, the religious crowd has heard and the disciples have heard - Jesus is going to die.
There is other instruction that follows what we read in John 13 but I don’t believe any to be more significant than what Christ is teaching in this setting.

No where in all the Bible is there a more striking illustration of humility than in John chapter 13.
The best way to teach anything is to show.
More is caught than is taught.
Jesus is our supreme example!

The plan to wash is the written Word of God
We must know and be familiar with Gods Word in order to help and ministrer to anyone!

The purpose is to point men to Jesus Christ
