God’s Verdict!!!
Chapter 3
Then what advantage has the Jew?
Or what is the benefit of circumcision?
1.
Then what advantage has the Jew?
Or what is the benefit of circumcision?
Great in every respect.
First of all, that they were entrusted with the oracles of God.
What then?
If some did not believe, their unbelief will not nullify the faithfulness of God, will it?
May it never be!
Rather, let God be found true, though every man be found a liar, as it is written,
“THAT YOU MAY BE JUSTIFIED IN YOUR WORDS,
AND PREVAIL WHEN YOU ARE JUDGED.”
But if our unrighteousness demonstrates the righteousness of God, what shall we say?
The God who inflicts wrath is not unrighteous, is He? ( I am speaking in human terms.)
May it never be!
For otherwise, how will God judge the world?
But if through my lie the truth of God abounded to His glory, why am I also still being judged as a sinner?
And why not say (as we are slanderously reported and as some claim that we say), “ Let us do evil that good may come”?
Their condemnation is just.
What then?
Are we better than they?
Not at all; for we have already charged that both Jews and Greeks are all under sin
1.
Then what advantage has the Jew?
Or what is the benefit of circumcision?
Answer there is an advantage because you have received the oracles of God.
(The old testament) you should have an advantage
2. What then?
If some did not believe, their unbelief will not nullify the faithfulness of God, will it?
Answer, the unbelief of man will not change the Word of God.
!
Rather, let God be found true, though every man be found a liar
3.

Answer May it never be!
4. But if through my lie the truth of God abounded to His glory, why am I also still being judged as a sinner?
Man would use his logic to escape the judgment of God.
Some would say “let us do evil that good may come.”
Verse 8.
But notice what Paul says, “Their condemnation is Just.”
5. What then?
Are we better than they?
Are the Jews better than the Gentiles?
NO!!! all is under sin Verse 9
Notice now God Verdict.
What then?
Are we better than they?
Not at all; for we have already charged that both Jews and Greeks are all under sin.
Under sin
The word under here is the word Hupo meaning beneath.
suggest being buried, I’d say even covered.
So all are under sin points to a position of authority over them.
Here it is referring to sin as a ruling power which has subjected all men.
Both Jew and gentile.
And at one time or another all of us here.
1.
The position of the Jew is the same as the Gentile.
“Are you better than they?”
You have the law you should be.
a.
The Jews received the oracles of God but did not believe.
