Verse 21, It is the Sabbath.

Jesus has for fisherman disciples with him.

And as was Jesus cost him he went to church and began to teach.

His teaching was so astounding that the people were all amazed because he didn't teach them the way the teachers of the law did, he taught them as the author of the book.

In the middle of his teaching, and interruption.

And it is not just any interruption, it's one of the ambassadors of the evil one.

The one he came to do battle with and overcome.

But notice that for Jesus this interruption becomes opportunity.

And with the same authority with which he talked he commands this evil one to silence.

With a shriek he makes his presence known and at Christ’s command is gone.

When they arrive, verse 30, Peter's mother-in-law is in bed with a fever.

The fever left her and she began to wait on them.

And without a word, only a touch from his hand, Peter's mother is made well .

Mark notes so decisive and immediate was this healing, that in the Jesus extends His hand, She is healed, He helps here up as though her illness was never there.

Mark doesn't tell us what takes place throughout the day -perhaps because this is the Sabbath, and Jesus will observe it’s after Simon's mother-in-law is healed, but in verse 32, Mark picks up on what happened that evening as a result of the word that spread about Jesus in the synagogue that morning.

Capernaum at the time of Jesus was a town of about 1500 people.

It's easy for us to imagine that the events that took place in the synagogue that morning were so intense that the people waited until after sunset verse 32 so that they would not break the Sabbath before they brought their people to Jesus.

Which would suggest that not everyone who came was healed.

But “many” were healed.

One final note about his healings that day, many demons were driven out and he controlled them all.

And they knew who Jesus was.

And finally on this day in the life of Jesus, as a new day is about to begin, Jesus might have been tempted to back to town where His fame was growing quickly, but Jesus, is intent on keeping his mission in front of him, tells Simon and Andrew, James and John,

And finally on this day in the life of Jesus, when those who came looking for him found him, they reminded Jesus that the crowds are still looking for him.

But Jesus who is intent on keeping his mission in front of him, rather than going back to the town,

Healing people is great, but He has a greater purpose.

Driving out the demons is important, but His great mission and purpose is to proclaim the good news of God.

Jesus will not let anything or anyone stop him from His mission, or take him off course.
