My family had just stopped attending Catholic mass. After a couple weeks my parents asked my sister and I if we still wanted to go. We replied, “Yes, they give us candy!” Over the next 6 years I heart the Gospel of Jesus
Christ many mes. On the outside I grew colder and colder to the Gospel over me, but on the inside, I
was /ghng a bale between my will and God’s will. Through this me my family remained faithful to
church. It was not unl the summer of 2001 that God changed my heart. Our church had just goen a
new pastor a few years earlier and he started taking the teens to a Chrisan camp every summer. The
summer of 2001 was the /rst year I was old enough to go, but I made it known that I did not want to go.
My parents gave me two opons. Opon one was go to camp and opon two was not an opon.
Needless to say, I chose camp.
It was at camp where God took away all the distracons Satan was using to keep me from caring about
my eternal desny. It did not take long before God brought me to the end of myself and to a point of so
much convicon that I knew I had to make a decision. It was on June 12, 2001 that I made the choice to
repent and trust Jesus Christ’s substuonary death on the cross as payment for my sin. It was at that
point that God changed my life forever. Before that I was condemned to spend eternity in a Devil’s hell,
but through trusng in Jesus Christ.

I grew up in a Christian home. My grandpa was the pastor of
my church and my dad was the youth pastor. So I grew up
know exactly how a Christian should act. When I was 5 one of
my brothers accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior. I don’t
really remember much, but I remover praying a prayer just
because my brother did and then I could get baptized and
take communion. I then began acting out the Christian life, but
truly just wanted everybody to see how good I was, not how
great God was. Growing up I doubted my Salvation. I was
embarrassed to admit that I was not saved, but I was really
living for self instead of for God. When I was 17, I truly
repented of my sins and asked God to save me. I now strive
to live my life to honor my God! I’m not perfect, but want to
please my Lord with my life. I am now excited to serve my
God with my wonderful husband by my side.
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
My family started attending Walnut Creek Baptist Church when I was 7 years old. My family had just stopped attending Catholic mass. After a couple weeks my parents asked my sister and I if we still wanted to go. We replied, “Yes, they give us candy!” Over the next 6 years I heart the Gospel of Jesus Christ many times. 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
For God so loved, He gave. For God so loved, He self-sacrificed. For God so loved, there was a bloody cross on behalf of guilty sinners.
For God so loved, He gave. For God so loved, He self-sacrificed. For God so loved, there was a bloody cross on behalf of guilty sinners.
The Bible describes the Son as the groom, and the church is described as His bride.
The Son expresses His love for His bride in self-sacrifice—absolute self-sacrifice, self-sacrifice to the uttermost, love that knows no end, love that goes to a cross and is resurrected.
The church expresses her love to the One that gives everything for her. The bride joyfully submits to her loving head, acknowledging him as her leader and following gladly where He leads. This is the marriage to which all other marriages are to point. This is the marriage to which your marriage is to point.
Charles , I want to say to you today: This is your bride. As her father walked away moments ago, that was no mere formality, and it wasn’t just simply symbolic.
Something is changing here today. You have a new responsibility, a responsibility that you have never had before.
This is your bride. You are to love her to the point of absolute self-sacrifice. Your love is to know no end. You are her provider and her protector.
Her father has taken care of her and brought her to this point, but he should be able to lay his head on his pillow each night, knowing that you will do whatever it takes to protect Kayla and to provide for Kayla the rest of your life. She should be able to sleep with a sense of peace that God has given her a provider and protector.
And Kayla I want to say to you today: This is your husband. No one has forced you to be here. You are to joyfully submit to him, to trust him, to follow his leadership. You are making a choice today that Charles will be your provider, that Charles will be your protector and you are to love him through submitting to his leadership, supporting him, caring for him.
I would remind you as well today, when your father walked away, something really changed.
As you look at one another: Charles , this is your bride. Kayla, this is your husband. Here and heed the words of God in Ephesians chapter 5, verses 22-32:
22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. 24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. 25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; 26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, 27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. 28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. 29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church: 30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. 31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. 32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
The marriage between a man and a woman is to be living testimony of the relationship between the Lord Jesus Christ and his chosen people, his bride, whom he purchased with His own blood. The bride of Christ was, specially chosen by the Father, from sinful humanity for the Son. His love for her knows absolutely no end.
Therefore to be unfaithful to this marriage covenant will not just bring shame upon you personally and lead to negative consequences in your life.
You are beautifully adorned as a bride today, Kayla, may it remind you the reality that the Lord Jesus Christ has clothed his church. He has adorned her in the robes of his righteousness. The bride of Christ had nothing but filthy rags but she is now clothed forever with glorious robes of righteousness.
Charles and Kayla, your marriage exists because of the gospel, and it must be built upon the gospel.
Your marriage is not to say to the world, “Look at a perfect couple.” But your marriage is to say to the world, “Look at two people who are sinners and are needy of grace, who have found that grace in Jesus Christ.”
He is our Lord. He is our Savior. He is our only hope now and forever. He is the great promise keeper and his promises will all be fulfilled. Every promise in Jesus Christ is “yes” and “amen.”
When you deal with one another in all of you weaknesses and your struggles, may you remember that you yourself are needy of grace and may you show grace to one another.
The difficulties you will face in marriage are no reason to walk away. The more difficult it gets, the more opportunity you have to show love. Remember that Christ died for the ungodly, and the commitment that you make here today is regardless of whether the other person holds up to their end of the commitment.
In Hebrews chapter 13, verses 4 and 5:
4 Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge. 5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
heb 13.
Charles and Kayla; be content with what you have. I want you to know that through all your weaknesses, Jesus Christ is perfectly content with you. Be content with one another. Charles and Kayla; do not forsake one another. The Lord Jesus Christ will never forsake you. Finally let me remind you that in choosing each other, you are choosing never to pursue any other. You are uniquely God’s gift to one another, to become one flesh, physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
Let marriage beheld in honor among all and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral adulteress. Keep your life from the love of money and be content with what you have. For He hath said, I will never leave you nor forsake you.
Joe and Tina; be content with what you have. I want you to know that through all your weaknesses, Jesus Christ is perfectly content with you. Be content with one another. Joe and Tina; do not forsake one another. The Lord Jesus Christ will never forsake you. Finally let me remind you that in choosing each other, you are choosing never to pursue any other. You are uniquely God’s gift to one another, to become one flesh, physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
