1 Cor 12:12
INTRODUCTION
Some People come to the church to see what they can take instead of what they can do.
It is far too common that when people come into a church they are looking for what they can get.
And they leave frustrated because they did not get anything instead of coming to give.
We should never complain that we do not get anything out of Church we need to be contently giving.
DO not misunderstand I want you to leave on Sunday morning different than how you came, it is not wrong to receive but if that is the reason to go church we have missed the entire point.

People can come into churches and say this church does not do__________ instead they should be saying there is a need in this church and I am going to fill it.
So today I ask you.
Are you a functioning Church member?
One BODY v.12-13
Every Christian is Part of The Body of Christ on Earth.
as such Paul draws a picture of this Unity.
which should exist inside the Church for it to function properly.
A human body is only efficient when it functions properly, as such a church only efficent when it functions properly.
In a human body parts of the body are not Jealous of one another, they complement each other.
Thus We need to realize the following
1.
We need to realize that we need each other.
There can be no such thing as isolation in the Church.
Far too often, people in the Church become so engrossed in the bit of the work that they are doing and so convinced of its supreme importance that they neglect or even criticize others who have chosen to do other work.
If the Church is to be a healthy body, we need the work that everyone can do.
2. We ought to respect each other.
In the body, there is no question of relative importance.
If any limb or any organ ceases to function, the whole body is thrown out of gear.
It is so with the Church.
All service ranks the same with God.
Whenever we begin to think about our own importance in the Christian Church, the possibility of really Christian work is gone.
3. We ought to sympathize with each other.
If any one part of the body is affected, all the others suffer in sympathy because they cannot help it.
The Church is a whole.
The person who cannot see beyond his or her own organization, the person who cannot see beyond his or her congregation—worse still, the person who cannot see beyond his or her own family circle—has not even begun to grasp the real unity of the Church.
This verse starts off the explanation the fact that the body has many parts but they all have one function just as the body of Christ has many parts but they all have different functions.
The Human body each part compliments each other as each believer compliments another believer.
No member of the body is un-needed just as no member of the Church is un needed.
every believer must be a functioning Church member
A church reflects both unity and diversity.
God does not give you an option as to weather or not you do something in the Church you are to serve using your Gifts.
The Body of Christ is the Church.
every believer must be a functioning Church member
The Church is not a country club where you pay your dues and it serves you the Church is a place to serve because of your Love for God.
A church reflects both unity and diversity.
Baptized here is not water Baptism, but rather spiritual baptism which takes place at salvation to every believer.
The one who gives us our spiritual gifts is also the unifying agent we were all baptized in one spirit.
All believer no matter nationality or identity are all identified with Christ.
1 cor 12:13
The one who gives us our spiritual gifts is also the unifying agent we were all baptized in one spirit.
All believer no matter nationality or identity are all identified with Christ.
We were given one spirit to drink: This is past tence “were given” in addressing the corinthian believers Paul is sayin g at the point of salvation you were given the spirit and each of us were given the same.
We were given one spirit to drink: were past tense at salvation we were indwelt by the spirit, spirit Baptism
ONE MISSION v 14-19
1 Cor 12:
All the prseeding does not mean that we all have the same gifts, but rather that no gift is better than another.
We all have a diversity of Gifts just as the human body is made up of many parts so is the body of Christ made up of many people with many different gifts.
and each part is dependent on the others.
The diversity within the Church does not mean there should be diversity in purpose or mindset.
but rather that there are simply different people within a church.
We are all on the same team!
(Power Point)
The functions
1 cor 12:16-
1 cor 12:15-
If the ear should say, “Because I’m not an eye, I don’t belong to the body
Now Paul moves to His point of diversity in the body because if it is to operate as one it must work together and each part must be willing to perform his or her function and must not try to function in an area which it was not made.
The whole Body cannot be a single part and function properly
If the foot should say, “Because I’m not a hand, I don’t belong to the body,
If the ear should say, “Because I’m not an eye, I don’t belong to the body
It is the same with the church members with one gift should not flaunt that gift or wish they had someone else’s gift
The logic of this verse is compelling, nobody can function and only see, or only hear so it is for the Church to function properly it must have different gifts and offices
Paul stresses the sovereignty of God in the proses.
It is not just foolish, but also disobedient to desire someone else’s Gift, you are saying that you know better than God.
1 cor 12:18
Paul stresses the sovereignty of God in the proses.
It is not just foolish, but also disobedient to desire someone else’s Gift, you are saying that you know better than God.
God sovereignly places each individual with his or her gifts in each local church and He or she must use their gifts, it is not a choice.
If the Church ignores this instruction it ignores God’s design for the Church.
Paul exposes the absurdity of the Corinthian believers’ mindset.
A body composed of a single part is not a body and could not function as a body;
1
it is the same thing for believers, with each playing his or her own role.
They must not fool themselves into thinking that one particular group or gifting represents the entire body of Christ.
ONE
AGAIN, THE FOCUS IS DRAWN TO THE FACT THAT IT IS ONE BODY
not only can we not say that the body can do without me, but we also may not say that we can do without the body.
There is no such thing as a freelancing Christian, no part of the body can take leave of the other members as though they were unnecessary.
1 cor 12
It is absolutely wrong to say or think that there are some members which are not necessary.
Paul moves to the fact that mutual depemdance and concern for verrious members of the Body.
Those that seem weaker are important and ought to be treated with respect.
So also, is it with the Church those who all they can do is pray, those who tithe little all are to be treated with respect.
1 cor 12:
1 cor 12:23-
As in the human body there are some parts that seem weaker than others likewise there are some we deem less honorable.
As in the human body there are some parts that seem weaker than others likewise there are some we deem less honorable.
Some parts of the body get more attention and exposure than others while other parts that are less presentable are never noticed.
as God views the body he does not see it in parts but in the whole.
If one were to take red and green they do not make a new shade of red or a new shade of green, but they make blue so is the same for the church all different kinds of people make up the church.
