Life in a Healthy Church

The church is be a university of discipleship.

The Church Disciples thru Witness and Testimony

Acts
Acts 4:18–21 ESV
18 So they called them and charged them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus. 19 But Peter and John answered them, “Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, you must judge, 20 for we cannot but speak of what we have seen and heard.” 21 And when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding no way to punish them, because of the people, for all were praising God for what had happened.
In the church launches with unprecedented growth. Why? How?
Acts 1:8 ESV
8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
Not Bold? In the apostles were brought in front of the authorities for preaching the Gospel. They were told to stop causing trouble and shut up about this Jesus. They went to the church and they began to pray.
Acts 4:23–29 ESV
23 When they were released, they went to their friends and reported what the chief priests and the elders had said to them. 24 And when they heard it, they lifted their voices together to God and said, “Sovereign Lord, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and everything in them, 25 who through the mouth of our father David, your servant, said by the Holy Spirit, “ ‘Why did the Gentiles rage, and the peoples plot in vain? 26 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers were gathered together, against the Lord and against his Anointed’— 27 for truly in this city there were gathered together against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, along with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, 28 to do whatever your hand and your plan had predestined to take place. 29 And now, Lord, look upon their threats and grant to your servants to continue to speak your word with all boldness,

The church was in the word everyday, ppl were being saved every day!
The word nourishes us.

Fellowship

Acts 2:42 ESV
42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.
Acts 2:42
Greek koinonia means to “share something in common with others.”
True discipleship can happen only by being an active participant in community.
Ephesians 4:16 ESV
16 from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.
Hebrews 10:24–25 ESV
24 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, 25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
Hebrews 10:
An unchurched believer is a disobedient and selfish believer who is limiting their own development and experience of spiritual authority.
Fellowship will include conversations about Jesus, it will also include accountability.
Being a disciple means you are willing to live in connection with others.

Honoring God thru Worship

Acts 2:46–47 ESV
46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.
Acts 2:44–47 ESV
44 And all who believed were together and had all things in common. 45 And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. 46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.
We are to worship in public and private, even when things are not going well.
Acts 2:44-4
Philippians 4:6 ESV
6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
In the process selfishness begins to fall away.
Worship is recognizing God for who He is and what He has done and what we are trusting Him to do.
When these four elements are in place what happens?
Selfish Attitudes decreased ()
Become concerned for others
They began to share with one another
People were getting saved daily. (v. 47)
