Good morning Ya’ll! How are ya’ll doing? I told my wife that I couldn’t resist saying ya’ll since we are in the south, so please allow me to abuse it today. I’m excited to be here today, for those of you that I havent met yet, I am Andy Munao, my wife here in the front is Lisa, and you guys are interested in us for ministry and we are interested in you! It has been very enjoyable this weekend to meet everyone, to get to know everyone, go to youth group, have lunches and dinners and see what the Trinity family is like! I know Ryan was looking forward to not having to preach today, I heard you guys have been going through Genesis longer than you wanted!

Haha - just playing! I’ve known Ryan for a while now, and he has been key to my growth in Christ, so it’s fun to poke at him once and a while. But, I believe it is important to recognize this, in case Trinity you haven’t recognized this, Ryan is a blessing to the church. I have seen churches that minor on the minor things, choosing to chase after shiny and attractive things, and they misplace the word of God. It results in conflict, confusion, and is harmful to the community of believers. But I want to affirm you Trinity that you are being led well, with a pastor who is majoring the majors, emphasizing the right things, and is relying on God’s word, his spirit, and direction in shepherding you and equipping you. When we get familiar with people we tend to forget the blessings of one anothers giftings. So, I’m grateful that Ryan has been my mentor in my discipleship process and I hope that you recognize the blessing he is to your Trinity family.

Today, I want to share with you about the amazing trip my wife and I just returned from, we were in Turkey, Greece, and Rome. it was an adult study tour with 30 others, to follow in the footsteps of Paul, as much as possible we learned a ton, but walked away with a few big things …
Today, I want to share with you about the amazing trip my wife and I just returned from, we were in Turkey, Greece, and Rome. In this trip, we experienced, learned, and saw so many new perspectives and provoking topics about God. And in this trip, I am more convinced of the authenticity and reliability of God and his word, and have fallen in love with God more. Also, through this message, I hope that my vision, dreams, giftings, and passions are displayed clearly, and I am hoping and praying that Where my wife and are at are in accordance with where you Trinity are as well. Hopefully you will learn about me and who I am.

So, could we pray together before we continue?
Thank you Lord Jesus for today, Thank you for new adventures and exciting season, Thank you for the ways you speak to us, thank you for your Word and your commitment to reach us and give us your love, thank you that you choose us to share your heart with and that you clearly display who you are through Christ, the word, and your spirit, and through the lives of your disciples. Amen.
The focus of our trip to Turkey and Greece was to follow in the footsteps of Paul. So we traveled to a majority of the places he ministered in and wrote to. It was extremely fascinating to imagine being ministered to by Paul. To be in Corinth, Ephesus, Philippi, really brought the Bible more to life…

The biggest take away from this trip, from walking in the footsteps of Paul, was the commitment Paul had to the spreading and growth of the Gospel message. He faced circumstances unlike the ones we face in our 21 century modern western culture, yet, he was committed to the mission Christ called him to…
(Next slide) - So, in an easy to put outline, it is best to understand Paul as committed to (click) Going to spread Salvation in Christ, committed to (Click) Knowing the circumstances and of people in their respective locations, committed to (Click) Sowing seeds to Jews and Gentiles and committed to (Click) Growing the already existing churches he had already planted or ones that fellow disciples planted. So... Go, know, sow, and grow… easy to mix up!
Committed to Going…

Committed to Going… (next slide - going)

The focus of our trip to Turkey and Greece was to follow in the footsteps of Paul. So we traveled to a majority of the places he ministered in and wrote to. We also went to everyone of the seven churches mentioned in the book of revelation. Paul ministered to some of these churches as well. The biggest take away from this trip, from walking in the footsteps of Paul, was the commitment Paul had to the spreading of the Gospel message.
(Next Slide - missionary journeys) - In Paul’s missionary journeys, scholars estimate, based on what we do have recorded in scripture, that Paul traveled 10,000 miles, give or take a few. All done by foot! He walked across Asia Minor, Israel, and Greece, all of which are unforgiving in their landscape. Mountains are everywhere in Turkey and Greece. Our tour Guide told us that there are around 800 tremors a the tectonic plates, most of which you of course dont feel. But Last year, Turkey recorded over 26,000 earthquakes over their country. So, it’s mountainous, seismacly active, containing a deceptively beautiful landscapes that made it a massive burden for Paul to share the Gospel message where he did.
I have a few photos I’d like to show you so that we can understand the reality of Paul’s travels and commitment. (slides)

(Next slide - Going) As you can see, these places are truly harsh, mountainous, rugged, and burdensome to the travel of Paul in his commitment to Go spread the good news.
IT’s amazing that Paul knew his churches so well, and was able to pen letters that were so detailed, it shows the level of his care and commitment he had for his churches… Paul was committed to traveling even with the burdensome mountains, and burdensome distances. As a comparison, the total distance Lisa and I traveled on this trip came out to be just over 10,000 miles as well with Flights included. However, we did it in less than 3 weeks!
On top of the distance Paul traveled, he also suffered several beatings but continued to travel anyways. He was committed to going! (Next slide - scripture) says “Then some Jews came from Antioch and Iconium and won the crowd over. They stoned Paul and dragged him outside the city, thinking he was dead. 20 But after the disciples had gathered around him, he got up and went back into the city. The next day he and Barnabas left for Derbe.”

He was beaten so badly his persecutors thought he was dead! He then left the next day, badly wounded, suffering pain, and walked 25 miles from Lystra to Derbe! Bloodied, beaten, pulverized to a pulp, Paul and the disciples continued to go.. they were dead set on going… (good pun)
The New International Version (Grand Rapids, MI: Zondervan, 2011), .
In , we are really shown the reality of the burdens he carried in his missionary life
I have worked much harder, been in prison more frequently, been flogged more severely, and been exposed to death again and again. 24 Five times I received from the Jews the forty lashes minus one. 25 Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was pelted with stones, three times I was shipwrecked, I spent a night and a day in the open sea, 26 I have been constantly on the move. I have been in danger from rivers, in danger from bandits, in danger from my fellow Jews, in danger from Gentiles; in danger in the city, in danger in the country, in danger at sea; and in danger from false believers. 27 I have labored and toiled and have often gone without sleep; I have known hunger and thirst and have often gone without food; I have been cold and naked. 28 Besides everything else, I face daily the pressure of my concern for all the churches. 29 Who is weak, and I do not feel weak? Who is led into sin, and I do not inwardly burn?

Wow, The burdens and challenges Paul carried, on top of the physical landscape and terrain of Turkey and Greece, Paul was a Spirit empowered leader, Committed to going, Which begs the question…
The New International Version (Grand Rapids, MI: Zondervan, 2011), .
(Next Slide - Going) The question we must ask ourselves, are we this committed to going like paul? Are we this committed to going Where Christ needs us? Do you know how far we have to go today? The distance depends on how far your Iphone or computer is from your hands. (Next slide - phone)
Committing to Knowing and Sowing… Paul was committed to knowing the circumstances of those he interacted with and committed to know sowing a seed of the Gospel with his gifts and abilities in a way that was understandable to those who listened. We have the responsibility of going to the people that Christ has prepared us for. What I mean by that last statement is I have certain experiences, abilities, gifts, talents, and skills that I am able to use in my witness of Christ to people. For instance, I am a Millenial, who can understand the circumstances and thoughts of my generation, I love to play basketball and watch sports so I can connect with young men, I love to play music and I can use this to connect with musicians of all ages. Just a few instances, but it is important to recognize how Christ uses our giftings, skills, abilities and experiences in order to reach the people in our spheres of influence and
Paul made his way through this valley, between these cities on his way to Ephesus in his Third Missionary Journey. Mentioned in .
Like Paul, I believe it is necessary that we Go, to every realm of life we are involved in. We don’t need to travel 10,000 miles to be obedient to the Lord. Willingness to Go is the most important thing. We can commit to going through social media on our phone,
(Next Slide - Group) But I believe we should commit to going to our neighbors, the ones who live directly across the street, in our towns, in our work places. I believe Christ uses our day to day, mundane jobs, as opportunities for His name to be known. So, we are purposefully placed in our circumstances…
And when we arrive, when we commit to Going, sent out by Christ, we must…

Committing to Knowing and Sowing…

(Next slide - Knowing and Sowing) - Paul was committed to knowing the circumstances of those he interacted with and committed to sowing a seed of the Gospel with his gifts and abilities in a way that was understandable to those who listened.

(Next Slide - dinner friends) For instance, while Lisa and I were in Rome, we were out to dinner at this cute little place that was overpriced. We were eating and another young couple sat down just a table away from us. Now Lisa is gifted with communication and conversation. and easily started up a conversation with them…
After Paul’s Damascus Road experience, Christ came to a disciple named Ananias and told him to restore the sight of Paul, and that Paul was his chosen instrument to claim Christ’s name to the Gentiles, their kings, and people of Israel.
- After an hour of talking about our lives, we found out he was the head of marketing for Wow Pistachios… Successful… super bowl comericials....
Adam is the creative genius behind their successful marketing strategies
Wife loves these exact pistachios.... complimented him....
Then, Adam Generously offered to send us a Goodie box with all kinds of pistachio treats…
Never expected their generosity, but of course we didn’t say no
At the end we offered to buy their meal, but they had already paid, we wanted to show generosity as well…
Lisa looked at me and said, “We can offer prayer to them, lets pray for them”
So we got up, lisa thanked them for the conversation and fun time we shared, and for their generosity, and said we can offer you prayer…
They willingly accepted, and lisa looked at me and said, Okay andy pray!
Thanked God for Adams creativeness, and his gift from God, ultimately reflecting God’s creativeness
Prayed for Holly, as she clearly was a supportive wife and mother
Lastly prayed that They may know how Good God’s love is, and how he loves us so
We said amen, said bye, and we went on our way! So you see, we used our gifts, committed to knowing them and their circumstances, and committed to sowing a seed that Christ may water. Knowing and sowing can be as simple as our experience...
And you see Paul committed to knowing his listeners and committed to sowing seeds of the Gospel in their lives. There are many examples of this in the New Testament, but the one that comes to mind is Pauls experience in Athens on Mars Hill in .
As he walked around the city of Athens, he was greatly distressed by the sheer amount of Idols in the city. So like he usually did when he entered new cities, he would go to their synagogues and reason with Jews and God Fearing Gentiles. Some Philosophers from the city were listening to Paul and were attracted to the fresh ideas Paul was sharing about Christ and the resurrection. So the philosophers brought him up to the Areopagus, or better known as Mars Hill, where the athenians and debaters did nothing all day other than talking about the latest and newest ideas. So they wanted to hear what Paul had to say because it was something they never heard before.(Next slide - acropolis and hill) This first photo is looking up at the acropolis with temples on the highest points to the left, and Mars hill on the right. Taken from the lower city where Paul would have seen all the idols. (Next slide) This photo is taken ontop of Mars Hill Where paul definitely would have debated with these philosophers, looking at the ACropolis of Athens with the many temples to many Gods.
So the philosophers brought him up to the Areopagus, or better known as Mars Hill, where the athenians and debaters did nothing all day other than talking about the latest and newest ideas. So they wanted to hear what Paul had to say because it was something they never heard before.
(Next slide - Scripture) Paul started by saying “People of Athens, You are very religious! For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: to an unknown god. So you are ignorant of the very thing you worship—and this is what I am going to proclaim to you.”
For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: to an unknown god. So you are ignorant of the very thing you worship—and this is what I am going to proclaim to you.
This caught the listeners attention, as the athenians were “very” religious with all their idols and statues, and Paul gained favor and a more listening ear with this statement. He hooked them in, and then showed them how much he observed and learned and knew about their culture and used it against them to witness to Christ, to affectively Sow the seed of the Gospel…
The account continues saying, “For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: to an unknown god. So you are ignorant of the very thing you worship—and this is what I am going to proclaim to you.” This caught the listeners attention, as the athenians perhaps were religious with all their idols and statues, and Paul gained favor and a more listening ear with this statement. A little harsh, stereotypical Paul style, But these past few verses shows that Paul Knew his audience and their circumstances. He Knew how to reach them effectively, and continued to Sow a seed of the Gospel.
The New International Version (Grand Rapids, MI: Zondervan, 2011), .
(Next slide - Scripture) He did this when he said continuing, “The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands. 25 And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else… (Next Slide - Scripture) 27 God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us. 28 ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’ r As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’ (Next Slide - Scripture) “Therefore since we are God’s offspring, we should not think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone—an image made by human design and skill… 31 For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to everyone by raising him from the dead.”
The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands. 25 And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else. 26 From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. 27 God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us. 28 ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’ r As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’
Paul used their own philosophies and poets to witness to Christ and the reality of God’s full revelation in Jesus. Paul was a well educated man under a famous Rabbi Gamiel. Paul was a Hebrew of Hebrews, Master Rabbi, especially since he came to know Christ. He has the equivalence of at least one PHD doctorate degree. The point, is that he used his abilities, skills, his experiences, gifts, His education in Knowing the circumstances of his listeners, and Sowing a seed of the Gospel in a way that his listeners understood.
29 “Therefore since we are God’s offspring, we should not think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone—an image made by human design and skill. 30 In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent. 31 For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to everyone by raising him from the dead.”
(Next Slide - Knowing Sowing) Like Paul, I believe we have the responsibility of learning and Knowing the circumstances of our places of influence with our gifts so that we may able to Sow the seeds of the Gospel in the lives of those with whom we interact. Our abilities, gifts, passions, and visions enable us through Christ to witness effectively, and Christ calls us to be sent into the world like he was sent into the world from the Father. It is not the pastors job to do this only, the entire church is called to this.
The New International Version (Grand Rapids, MI: Zondervan, 2011), .
And that’s what I envision for my role, to reach my generation of adults, who have rejected the church and tried it out, believe in a creator but do not let it govern their thoughts, living, or actions. I desire to see my age group turning to Christ, and with my gifts, abilities, and skills, I trust that Christ will use them to build his kingdom in whatever way he sees fit.
(Next Slide - Growing) After we are able to know and sow, we start the process of Growing alongside of these people whom we are gifted to witness effectively to, and other fellow believers…

Growing…

I know you guys have been going through Genesis, and have seen how we are Image bearers of God, and are called to steward his image and his creation accordingly, and to restore those who are also made in God’s image. It’s extremely important to have this Broad view of how we are ambassadors of God and Christ. Yet, the narrow view of mission is also extremely important. To be committed to Growing new believers, disciples, the church at large.
After we are able to know and sow, we start the process of Growing alongside of these people whom we are gifted to witness effectively to, our fellow believers, and our churches.
On our trip, two pastors from the same church out on the west coast who were apart of our tour really poured into the lives of everyone during the trip. They were also attentive to lisa and I, and we grew quite close to them we shared our ministry aspirations and how we would be visiting Trinity church in Florida as a pastoral candidate.
These two guys were committed to growing alongside of everyone in the group for the 2 and a half weeks we spent together. They especially poured into us, making sure we were asking all the right questions, prepared with our own questions, visions, and dreams. And they prayed with us often, encouraged us many times, challenged our expectations and assumptions, humbled us, rebuked us, and grew us exponentially. We left with new perspectives a deeper growth in Christ. I believe we should be prepared as Christians to individually disciple, and corporately influence our churches. They corporately encouraged served the group as a whole, but were also committed to individual discipleship… one on one…
And you see, Paul did this exact same thing on his missionary journeys. After nearly being beaten to death on his first missionary journey, Paul continued to establish new churches, but then traveled back the same way he came in order to encouraged the new believers with words of exhortation, prayers, fasting, and fellowship. HE went back to the same city he was beaten in to grow the believers there. Paul was committed to growing corporately the believers he went to and established no matter the circumstances or hardships, and within the corporate encouragement, he Individually discipled.
21 They preached the gospel in that city and won a large number of disciples. Then they returned to Lystra, Iconium and Antioch, 22 strengthening the disciples and encouraging them to remain true to the faith. “We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God,” they said. 23 Paul and Barnabas appointed elders a for them in each church and, with prayer and fasting, committed them to the Lord, in whom they had put their trust. 24 After going through Pisidia, they came into Pamphylia, 25 and when they had preached the word in Perga, they went down to Attalia.
We see this displayed in ,(Next Slide - scripture) “21 They preached the gospel in that city and won a large number of disciples. Then they returned to Lystra, Iconium and Antioch, 22 strengthening the disciples and encouraging them to remain true to the faith. “We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God,” they said. (Next Slide - Scripture) 27 On arriving there, they gathered the church together and reported all that God had done through them and how he had opened a door of faith to the Gentiles. 28 And they stayed there a long time with the disciples.” Here is the corporate commitment to discipling.
(Next Slide - Growing) This reminds me of something new I learned from your Pastor Ryan Schmitz. He has allowed me to share this with you, so I am the bearer of good news to you for an example for my sermon. Ryan is partnering with 4 other Evangelical free church pastors within the Florida Area. They will be sharing teaching weekends within the 5 churches they each shepherd. it is called Evangelical and Free - They will be doing this by each pastor preaching one sermon at each church over the time of 5 weeks. So the first week, Ryan will share a message here at his own church, and then the next week, will visit one of the other churches, and the next week will visit the other and the other and other. So, you will get to hear a different pastor from another Florida Church Evangelical free church, who will share with you about their communities, churches, and ministries. It is an exciting new opportunity to connect with other brothers and sisters here in Florida, and also an opportunity for your individual communities to grow differently. This really sounds similar to methods of the apostles and Paul! and we see the element of corporate discipleship here. Pa
Also just a chapter later in we read, “ Some time later Paul said to Barnabas, “Let us go back and visit the believers in all the towns where we preached the word of the Lord and see how they are doing... Paul chose Silas and left, commended by the believers to the grace of the Lord. 41 He went through Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the churches.” Here is the corporate commitment to discipling.
26 From Attalia they sailed back to Antioch, where they had been committed to the grace of God for the work they had now completed. 27 On arriving there, they gathered the church together and reported all that God had done through them and how he had opened a door of faith to the Gentiles. 28 And they stayed there a long time with the disciples.

The New International Version (Grand Rapids, MI: Zondervan, 2011), .
Paul also focused on Individual discipleship as well. This is displayed In 1 and 2 timothy. Paul is committed to individually instructing his young protege in Ephesus of the ministries of the church So that timothy could disciple others who would disciple others.
pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. 12 Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses
Paul taught Timothy on praying and worship, to lives blameless lives, and to commit to fasting and praying, and giving thanks to God for all people. Paul individually discipled Timothy here and we can see it in 1 timothy 6 where he says, “pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. 12 Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.”
The New International Version (Grand Rapids, MI: Zondervan, 2011), .

Ending

Individual discipleship is key to our growth as christians. We see how Christ poured his life out to the 12 disciples individually, but also poured his life out to the communities he visited by healing and teachings and ect…
When we zoom out, and now see how discipleship, growth, sowing the seed of the Gospel, knowing the circumstances of our generations, and the commitment to going, I believe we end up with something that sounds quite familiar, something we have all often heard but perhaps brush over…
(Next slide - Great Commission) informs us, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age”.
(Next Slide - paul committed) Paul was committed to Going to all nations, committed to knowing circumstances of believers, Committed to Sowing the Gospel through Teaching and Baptizing, and committed to Growing the new believers in observing, obeying, and remembering all that Christ commanded.
(Final Slide )And hopefully like Paul, that is my vision and passion, for here at Trinity. To Commit to Christ, to Commit to Trinity, Eustis, surrounding cities, to reach those who I am able to reach, to serve you, and to partner alongside of you in this mission Christ has all called us to. And I am thrilled at the potential to do this here at Trinity, with your families, kids, and friends…
Thank you for this oppurutnity…
I desire to Commit to
Lets pray… (about Christ’s commitment)
