All of these except one, remember the sabbath and keep it Holy are still applicable today

The first commandment is made incredibly personal the word you are used.

This command still is in place today it was not given for only Israel we know this for a few reasons.
God is still God today and he is the same God as he was in the Old testament, and He still requires our worship
As long as God loves the world and Christ is the savior of the world we need to obey this commandment, and last time I checked those two items will never end.
I. What is forbidden
A. Man is not to set himself up as God
a. do not deny God, declaring there is no God(atheism)
b. man is not to question God saying he may or may not exist ( agnosticism)

Man is not to declare that man Himself is the supreme being the ultmate authority over the world ( humanism)
d.
Man is not to believe that his own knowledge and reasoning ability are the ultemate control of the universe
B. Man is not to believe that other humans, animals, or material things are God.
a. man is not to look to the heavens and declare the sun moon or stars to be God
b. man is not to look to any animal and declare it to be God
C. Man is not to believe in many Gods (polythism) There is only one living true God.

If we set up anything that rivals interest in our hearts and minds anything that takes our love and service which belongs only to God, we have broken this commandment.
a. a proud man who idolizes himself makes himself God
b. the ambitious man who pays homage to popular applause makes his ambition and the praise of men is His God
c. the covetous person who craves money and things makes a God out of money and things
d. the greedy person who hoards possessions makes possessions his god
e. the glutton who craves food and makes eating his God
f. weather husband, wife, mother or father who seta his supreme affection on a person loved instead of upon God makes that person his God.
in all of these Isiah 42:8 applies God does not share , nor should he his glory

In His epistle to the Corinthians Paul wrote:

We can make a God out of anything that we esteem or love, fear or serve more than God.
Whatever the heart clings to that a person’s god.
It may be oneself, many people focus on pleasing and satisfying themselves they live their own values and our concerned primarily with their own feelings, comfort, desires, and pleasures.
they simply live like they want doing their own thing they have exalted themselves to be their own gods.
Gods are made out of many things

-position
-carear
-posesions
-ext.
A god can be anything or anyone we put before GOD.
God and God alone deserve our allegiance, he does not share this as we see in the firs commandment

Consequences for not obeying this command.
The consequences upon God

The person who does not follow God causes Him pain

The person that does not follow God lives a life that is detestable to God
2. There are consequenses upon ones self
a. the person that Does not follow God follows after idols
-Either you follow God or you follow idols
b.
The person that does not follow God exchanges a life of joy for a life that is worthless
c.
The person who does not follow God experiences a life of emptiness
Ps 78:3

The person who does not follow God lives a life of hopelessness
e.
The person who does not follow God lives a life that is enslaved to sin
