(insert slide with instruction label -already saved on computer)
Instruction labels, do we always read them? God has given us instructions, not only that but promises when we follow the instructions (Jn14:15; Psm119:11; 2Tim3:16-17)
For us to have the benefits and results of the equipment God has given us it is best for us to read the instructions and to apply them.
Simple instructions like
John 14:15 NASB95
15 “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.
Or maybve
Psalm 119:11 NASB95
11 Your word I have treasured in my heart, That I may not sin against You.
P
The Bible, God’s instruction manual that is good for
2 Timothy 3:16–17 NASB95
16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17 so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.
2 Timothy 3:15–16 NASB95
15 and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness;
(expand on that and transition to next point)

I. Do God’s will

To do God’s will, you need to know it, believe it, then apply it (Rom12:2). So applying God’s will brings God’s promises and God’s blessings.
Romans 12:2 NASB95
2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.
So we keep His commands, we treasure His word, so we may know the will of God which is good, acceptable and perfect
Knowing is not enough, knowing, knowledge needs to be coupled with faith (Heb10:35-36)
Hebrews 10:35–36 NASB95
35 Therefore, do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. 36 For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised.
when coupled with faith you receive the reward and what was promised!
A preacher once said
“A biblical promise is a declaration of God’s intention to bestow a gift.”
God wants to bestow a gift on us, part is in the form of His promises (2Pt1:4)
2 Peter 1:4 NASB95
4 For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust.
Promise application brings blessings, so now let’s look at 1Kng8 and a portion of that chapter.
God’s promise to David brought blessing to his son (1Kng8:22-24)
1 Kings 8:22–23 NASB95
22 Then Solomon stood before the altar of the Lord in the presence of all the assembly of Israel and spread out his hands toward heaven. 23 He said, “O Lord, the God of Israel, there is no God like You in heaven above or on earth beneath, keeping covenant and showing lovingkindness to Your servants who walk before You with all their heart,
1Kn8:22-23
1 Kings 8:24 NASB95
24 who have kept with Your servant, my father David, that which You have promised him; indeed, You have spoken with Your mouth and have fulfilled it with Your hand as it is this day.
God had promised David that a house would be built, but not by him (1Kng8:17-19) Solomon was the one who was raised up to build the house for His name.
Solomon acknowledged the promise, acknowledged the fulfillment and gave God the credit for doing it! (expand on this; may we do this always, give God the credit)
Solomon gives the reason for giving God the credit, so in turn they would know and they too would be willing, and do, God’s will (1Kn8:54-57)
1 Kings 8:54–55 NASB95
54 When Solomon had finished praying this entire prayer and supplication to the Lord, he arose from before the altar of the Lord, from kneeling on his knees with his hands spread toward heaven. 55 And he stood and blessed all the assembly of Israel with a loud voice, saying:
1K
1 Kings 8:56–57 NASB95
56 “Blessed be the Lord, who has given rest to His people Israel, according to all that He promised; not one word has failed of all His good promise, which He promised through Moses His servant. 57 “May the Lord our God be with us, as He was with our fathers; may He not leave us or forsake us,
1 Kings 8:58 NASB95
58 that He may incline our hearts to Himself, to walk in all His ways and to keep His commandments and His statutes and His ordinances, which He commanded our fathers.
1kings8:48
from prayer and supplication on knees with hands raised
to praise and adoration because of the promise fulfilled
Prayer, praise that lead to a challenge for application (1Kng8:58-61)
1 Kings 8:58–59 NASB95
58 that He may incline our hearts to Himself, to walk in all His ways and to keep His commandments and His statutes and His ordinances, which He commanded our fathers. 59 “And may these words of mine, with which I have made supplication before the Lord, be near to the Lord our God day and night, that He may maintain the cause of His servant and the cause of His people Israel, as each day requires,
1 Kings 8:60–61 NASB95
60 so that all the peoples of the earth may know that the Lord is God; there is no one else. 61 “Let your heart therefore be wholly devoted to the Lord our God, to walk in His statutes and to keep His commandments, as at this day.”
1KIngs8:60-61
Solomon wanted them to know God, know God’s will and to do God’s will by being wholly devoted (v.61)!
(expand on that; and lead to transition to having a thankful heart)

II. Have a thankful heart

We need to know what we have in Christ, be thankful for what we have. when we are it is will show in our actions and oftentimes lead us to share our thankfulness we have for God.
Don’t let it slip by, don’t be forgetful, be thankful (Jam1:17)
James 1:17 NASB95
17 Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.
everything we have, every gift we have, physically/spiritually comes from the Father!
Be one of the all, not just one (Lk17:11-16; Add to it Psm103:2-5)
What I mean is look at this story, 10 healed but only one returns. 10 received the blessing, but only 1 gave thanks, so be one of the all who give thanks!
Luke 17:11–12 NASB95
11 While He was on the way to Jerusalem, He was passing between Samaria and Galilee. 12 As He entered a village, ten leprous men who stood at a distance met Him;
Luke 17:13–14 NASB95
13 and they raised their voices, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!” 14 When He saw them, He said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they were going, they were cleansed.
Luke 17:15–16 NASB95
15 Now one of them, when he saw that he had been healed, turned back, glorifying God with a loud voice, 16 and he fell on his face at His feet, giving thanks to Him. And he was a Samaritan.
Lk17:13-14
Luke 10:17 NASB95
17 The seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.”
Another good passage to add to this
Psm
Psalm 103:2–3 NASB95
2 Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget none of His benefits; 3 Who pardons all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases;
Psalm 103:4–5 NASB95
4 Who redeems your life from the pit, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and compassion; 5 Who satisfies your years with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle.
For the Lord is the One who can impact anyone and everyone who is willing to know (Jn14:6; 2Pt3:9; 1Jn2:12)
For He is the truth (Jn14:6)
For he is patient
2 Peter 3:9 NASB95
The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.
He is forgiving
1 John 2:12 NASB95
I am writing to you, little children, because your sins have been forgiven you for His name’s sake.
Deuteronomy 7:7–9 NASB95
7 “The Lord did not set His love on you nor choose you because you were more in number than any of the peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples, 8 but because the Lord loved you and kept the oath which He swore to your forefathers, the Lord brought you out by a mighty hand and redeemed you from the house of slavery, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt. 9 “Know therefore that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God, who keeps His covenant and His lovingkindness to a thousandth generation with those who love Him and keep His commandments;
He is the fulfillment of the O.T. promise
Deuteronomy 7:7–8 NASB95
7 “The Lord did not set His love on you nor choose you because you were more in number than any of the peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples, 8 but because the Lord loved you and kept the oath which He swore to your forefathers, the Lord brought you out by a mighty hand and redeemed you from the house of slavery, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.
Deuteronomy 7:9 NASB95
9 “Know therefore that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God, who keeps His covenant and His lovingkindness to a thousandth generation with those who love Him and keep His commandments;
The promises of God demonstrate the character of God and the nature of God to us. This also shows us what He says, He means (Heb13:8)
Hebrews 13:8 NASB95
8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
His character, His nature, His promises do not change! Since we know this, we need to do some application in our lives as a part of our transformation process.

III. Application Needed

If you have something and you read the instructions on how to use it what is the next step? Application, right? God’s instructions are not just for knowledge, but for application too.
Apply Trust (Pro3:5-6)
Proverbs 3:5–6 NASB95
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight.
Apply faith (Eph2:8)
Ephesians 2:8 NASB95
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;
Apply obedience (act2:38; Act22:16; Rom10:9-10)
Acts 2:38 NASB95
38 Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Acts 22:16 NASB95
16 ‘Now why do you delay? Get up and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on His name.’
Romans 10:9–10 NASB95
9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; 10 for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.
For without obedience it is all for nothing. why apply? we have hope
Apply hope (Psm71:5; 1Tim1:1)
Psalm 71:5 NASB95
5 For You are my hope; O Lord God, You are my confidence from my youth.
And the N.T. update
1 Timothy 1:1 NASB95
1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus according to the commandment of God our Savior, and of Christ Jesus, who is our hope,
Apply love (Jn13:34-35)
John 13:34–35 NASB95
34 “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 “By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”
So when we apply trust, faith, hope and love there is a great result. Though when it comes to application there can be much more, many others, but we should not be here all night.

IV. Application Results

So you read the instructions and you apply them, the end result should be the result stated in the instructions.
Hope in the right place confirmed (Lam3:21-24)
Lamentations 3:21–22 NASB95
21 This I recall to my mind, Therefore I have hope. 22 The Lord’s lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, For His compassions never fail.
Lamentations 3:23–24 NASB95
23 They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. 24 “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “Therefore I have hope in Him.”
Trust’s application result (Psm72:14-16)
Psalm 72:14–15 NASB95
14 He will rescue their life from oppression and violence, And their blood will be precious in his sight; 15 So may he live, and may the gold of Sheba be given to him; And let them pray for him continually; Let them bless him all day long.
Psalm 72:16 NASB95
16 May there be abundance of grain in the earth on top of the mountains; Its fruit will wave like the cedars of Lebanon; And may those from the city flourish like vegetation of the earth.
Pm72:16
Love’s result (Jn13:35)
John 13:35 NASB95
35 “By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”
No matter our circumstances, no matter our position, our possessions or lack thereof, Gods word has the promises, has the application and the results needed to get the intended results (entrance into heaven and sharing Christ, proclaiming Christ).
Not following the instructions, or should I say applying, can have disastrous results.
2 Thessalonians 1:8 NASB95
8 dealing out retribution to those who do not know God and to those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.
Don’t do God’s will out of necessity but out of gratefulness with a heart full of thankfulness as a recipient of God’s greatest gift, grace by faith through Christ Jesus who is our hope and gives us our eternal promise to be fulfilled one day!
