cross cultural isn’t just a racial or ethnic thing
we have multiple cultures sitting right before us today
multi-generations
tech savvy culture
unchurched and dechurched and traditional and modern church cultures
There is a reason Sears, Bon-Ton, Toys R Us, and Montgomery Ward are all out of busy.
They were all unwilling to change with the culture. Times are a changing and approaches to people and the 21st culture is something the church is fighting aganist instead of studying and being open to it.
Ministry has changed quite a bit even in the last 5-10 years. The Level of expectation for churches and public facilities is great.
You may say we are immuned to change here in small town White Haven yet we all have preferences but those who don’t go here have preferences as well
Are we willing to ask the tough questions of what it will take to draw people unlike ourselves into our worshipping community
Are you going to fight it and be like K-Mart which doesn’t have anything you need when you walk in or will you address what people want by paying for shipping like Wal-Mart in order to compete against Amazon
they are tough choices and it won’t make everyone happy but you are doing it for the loyal customers or committed members but for those who do not know Christ.
The vision at Mouuntainview Community is what?
What is the mission?
Does anyone know the irrovocable and uncompromising core values ?
To reach people unlike you (unbelievers) you have to do things that appeal to them. Some places it is simple things like clean bathrooms and air conditioning. In other parts it is making the church not look so much like a church or because of the baggage the look comes with or the name will do the same thing.
Paul’s challenge to Timothy and the church in Ephesus is to start thinnking how they can reach all people. Let’s explore
1 Timothy 2:1–8 ESV
First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time. For this I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth. I desire then that in every place the men should pray, lifting holy hands without anger or quarreling;
