The spoken Word by Jesus displays the authority and the power of God at work in Him.
And in our passage today we will see several powers at work, but one power prevailed!
We will see the power of Satan
We will see the power of society
And finally the power of the Savior
Jesus had displayed His power in calming the storm (Mk4:39) and in our passage today we will see he power and authority displayed in the freeing of a man (MK5:8)
A quick view of our passage and we see from the storm at see they arrive in the area of the Gaderenes (Mk5:1)
This is located on the east side of the Sea of Galilee, and in some writing like Matthew it may say Gersasenes, or Gergesenes, or even the area of Decapolis (Mk5:20)
From wild sea (4:39) to wild man (5:2), who cannot be bound (5:3-5)
From cannot be bound to even the demon humbling himself before the Lord (Mk5:6-9); begging not to be tormented (5:7).
From speaking to Jesus, to Jesus acting (5:10-13)
To the people who then begged for Jesus to leave (5:14-18)

His purpose is to Kill steal and destroy as noted in Jn10:10; He goes by Satan, goes by the Devil meaning adversary as noted in 1Pt5:8-9) He is at work in the lives of the unbelievers.
In our story today the man under the power of Satan loses everything.
He lost his home and now lives in the tombs
He lost his decency and now runs around naked in the tombs
He lost his self-control and lived like wild animals
He lost his hope and peace.
But Jesus came through the storm to rescue and restore!
The Power (force) of society (Lk8:29)
Society because it was not able to help him, handle him, isolated him and bound him.
Does society try to do this today?
With all the scientific achievements society still cannot cope with or handle the problems caused by Satan and sin.
Society is not able to permanently solve these problems are they?
But we know One who is
Power (force) of the Savior (Mk1:25; Mk4:39; Mk5:8; 13)
Jesus came and did what others did not, or could not.
Jesus came in love and went through a storm to do it.
The storm He went through could have been satanic in nature due to the it is the same phrase used in Mk1:25
and look at
Satan wanted to keep Jesus from coming to the one who needed Him here in our story, but Jesus had victory over the storm and has victory over the demons we see in the story!

The demons who were Legion, were they afraid?
Jesus invokes fear, or should invoke fear, for the good or for the bad.
So, what kind of fear do the demons have in our passage, and should we be afraid?
So, do you think the demons were afraid, if so, why?
The demons were afraid, the begged Jesus (Mk5:7; Mk1:23-24)
We already read Mk5:7; but that is similar to Mk1:23-24 and I want to bring that one in.

Now this brings us to our last one.

What did the man do (v.18)?
(He implored Jesus to go with Him)

Because of Jesus words; then coupled with the man’s words it lead to amazement (Mk5:20)
